All of a sudden, my direction indicator for my Motorguide TM is off quite a bit. I can force it back to the correct position, but the next time I use the foot control to steer, it knocks it out of position again.
Does it need to be tightened up somewhere? Or, does it need to be lubricated? I'm confused....

Mine does that also. Thinking about painting it black LOL. I think you can open up the housing on the head of the unit and super glue it in the gear you want it to set in.

Do you have to take the entire head apart, or can you just pry off the indicator itself?

Sometimes the indicator itself can be removed without disassembling the head.

The top of the head comes off there pretty easy, just a few screws, it's not sealed or anything. Once inside it's pretty obvious how it works. Might need to glue some piece of plastic or something.
For the cable-steer models anyway; if you're wireless then sorry, I don't know.

You take the head off, and play with the gear, like moving it up, and you'll be all set.

My Motorguide did that. I would realign it and soon it would be off again. Bob Ridgeway at the Garcia place told me there was not a solution to the problem and that eventually all MotorGuides do this. My solution? I bought a hand control Minnkota and have been very pleased since.

Paint it like was suggested - boat movement will tell you which way to pedal.

I had the same problem. Took the top of the head off and realigned it the way it should be. Put the screws back and problem fixed. It is very simple to do.

There is a little L shaped piece of metal which sometimes gets bent. It holds one of the gears in place. Check it. You might need to fix or replace it. I have fixed some and replaced others depending on how badly bent.
