Anyone know if the catfishing is any good at Colorado Bend? If so where at and what do you use? I will be there in April. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Kris

Anything will work. It becomes more and more "fishing" instead of catching the less equipment you have.
But with the water flowing pretty slow I bet you could catch some with a little boat. You just need to catch some shad. And it would improve you odds greatly if you had a few good jug lines to put out.

Have you been to the park before? Do you want a BIG catfish or small ones? After white bass, blacks also? Do you have a good fishing pole with a good drag? Can you throw a cast net?
I would walk down river to the little cove where the swimming hole is. Set up by the river and cast out in the river around where the creek runs in.
Put a weight on bottom, make a drop loop where your hook(a 8/0-10/0 circle) will be 1-2' off bottom. Use big 9-13" shad live. You should get a run right at dark. Then a few more before midnight.
Just watch out for people like me going in there to catch bait. But once it gets dark you should be left alone.
Try filleting a big shad also if you want a blue cat. I usually do not bother because little ones just mess everything up.

I know there are some good cats in the Colorado Bend area. I have caught some in the past. The fishing would be better if the river was up due to a flood. But you should still be able to catch some fish anyway.

How big of boat can you put in there ive got a 20ft deck boat I think that boat would be way too big for that area since the area can get very shallow in spots. If you want to put that big of a boat in the Colorado River, I would launch from Lake Buchanan and then drive up river as far as you can.

You can launch the 20' deck boat at the park right now. We launch our 21.5, center console there.

What is the best way to hook the shad? Never fished with them before. We are planning this trip for the 2nd weekend in april and are staying at sulphur springs camp. The original plan was to make the white bass run, hopefully it will be good. I would like to try for the cat's also. But I would never pass on the opportunity for some good blacks. Man this is making me want to go fishing now. Thanks again to all for your help. This site is awesome and the people on it are what make it so great. Kris

First you have to catch them and keep them alive. Thats the hard part. Look for moving water, maybe where a creek enters the river.
Hook them through the back right below the top fin. Hold them gently and do not put more than 5 good sized ones in a 5 gallon bucket.

Depends on what you want to catch. Liver will catch small ones.
There are pics somewhere. I think Tiny has them on his webpage.
