Well I finally did it. Thanks to the reading here and using a hair rig. I knew a stock tank of ours was loaded to the gills with them just had to have the right technique. It was well over 20" and was fought with an ultra-light rod with 6lb test. Lots of fun and a good fight. I chummed with corn and waited. Then I caught a dang mud cat anyway to avoid them? Sorry no pic.

It was quite fun, it would get close to shore pretty easy but once it saw me it was off. What would be the average weight of a 20" common carp? I was not prepared to handle the fish, how do you grab, net them. Also what are some good ideas for weights. I was letting the hair rig set itself with a bolt. (all I could find) Thanks for the help. Also what makes a good homemade sling?

Also what makes a good homemade sling? Dude I'm Ghetto as hell, so here is how I roll until I get $$$ for a mat & sling. I use the cargo net out of a 08 chevy malibu,it's built just like most of The sling but it's just a net. I am very careful when I have to use it but it have worked well on the fish I've landed while in Breckenridge. Ohh about the cats. If you will stop putting them back in they would stop eatin your corn. lol j/k

It is about 40-50 yards across and its round. Not huge but used to have nice cats in it. But it flooded and the cats went to the creek and the carp and mudcats are in the tank.

We call all bodies of water on our land 'tanks' no matter the size. There is about 12 of them so I don't get to technical. Except the Coleto Creek we call that the 'creek' That will be my next spot to try for the carp....I can see them in there because the water is crystal clear its a little tricky to catch stuff there.

In Yorktown there is a dam just south of Hwy 72 and there is a little park. Catch cats, perch, and a few carp in there too.
