I know, this is the Texas Fishing Forum, but me and some buddies are wanting to fish Calcasieu. Does anyone know of any good guides on the big lake ? Thanks!

I have not been since the hurricane, however I used to use these guys a lot. They had a house you could rent and always put us on the fish. Had nice boats and lots of stories to keep you entertained.

I have been going to Hackberry Rod and Gun for almost 15 years. Good food, great lodge and good guides.

We stayed at Spicer a few weeks ago. See http://www.rodnreel.com/spicerbait/index.asp?pg=lodges

The rooms are nice and people are friendly. You might try seeing who they recommend.

http://calcasieucharters.com/ Me and some co-workers went two weekends ago and limited out on Reds one day and caught a few trout. I dont remember the exact number we caught, I lost count at 5 because of the big Red I had on my line! And it was actually I hard weekend to fish. These guys are top shelf. The lodge is real nice, equipped with Satellite T.V., Wireless Net, Billiards Table, the Lodge actually can sleep up to 20 people if i am not mistaken. The Owner is Erik Rue and he has been in a lot of redfish tourneys and Bass Pro Shops just did a small insert about Lake Calcasieu and Capt. Erik was their guide that day. If Erik is unavailable ask for Jake. Jake was our guide and he was always putting us on fish. If you speak with Jake, tell him Pudnpops from houston sent you! Hope this helps

I have fished with Eric Rue and with HR&G. I would have to
go back with Eric Rue.
I you want to fish the real louisiana, ( Calcasieu is pretty
much the same as Sabine ) go on to Houma , Delacroix or
Venice. Longer drive but fishing is much better.

good luck

Here are few pics that I found from the trip a few weeks ago. The picture of the trout and reds were just from the first day. We were so busy fishing we hardly had anytime to take any pictures, plus I am a fisherman that hardly takes any pics, I just have stories. And I also threw in there a pic of Jake and one of the boats we fished from.
