Was wondering what you guys prefer, a combo or just one of each?

looking to spend $700.00 MAX on the whole deal...

pros and cons of each?

thanks

I have separate units. If you split the screen of a 5" diagonal unit, neither side is really big enough. When you really look at it, it doesn't really cost more for two units. For example, a Lowrance LCX27c combo unit with a 480x680 screen is $1000. For the same money you could get a GlobalMap5200c gps and a x510c sonar. Both have 480x480 screens. That's nearly one and a half times the viewing area for the same money.

Just my $0.02.

A drawback to separate units, with Lowance or Eagle is that you cannot record sonar logs for later viewing. On a Lowrance combo about midprice and up you can set a waypoint on something that is on the Sonar screen that you have passed. This is a great feature to me.

I have gps/sonar together in the 520c. That way I don't have a second unit to trip over. The split screen function works well for me on a ram mount.

I am not very familiar with this but trying to learn before I buy. 2 units sounds good. IF you saw something on the sonar that you wanted to mark wouldnt you just hit waypoint on the GPS and do the same thing as you would on one unit? I also dont understand (JJEN) what you meant by recording your sonar logs?

you can adjust your spit screen sizes for each window.

There is an option for logging sonar on a gps/sonar unit. A 2GB card can log 16 hours. It records everything seen on the screen while you are fishing. You can look at it later on your unit, on an emulator or on Sonar Viewer.

If you see something you like you can put a wpt in your unit and return to the exact spot and give it another look.

I have seen things on a sonar before and have gone back but was never able to find them again. If you can't find it again you can't set a waypoint on it. With the combo you just move a cursor on the sonar screen back to the object and push the waypoint button.

Yep, I actually cut down the size of the Sonar side and increase the side of the GPS/Map.

The only important part on Sonar is what is happen right now, not all that trailing history.

The LMS units from Lowrance are good units (fro you price range.
