 2002 Merc Optimax Cutting Out??

Hey guys, I have an 02 Mercury Optimax 225hp. Starts up fine when I get to the lake. When I go to give it a little throttle when in gear it cuts out and sometimes dies. I have put a new bulb and fuel line on and it still cuts out. The engine runs great when I get it up on plane (no cutting out). Any ideas on what may be happening here?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Apmannis

Mine got to doing that last fall. I changed the water seperating fuel filter and it quit.

The filter number is probably a 35-15458. It is located on the left side of the motor,from the rear and looks like an oil filter. I changed mine last week and added some merc water remover to the gas. Mine ran perfect this weekend.
