Waiting for the spawn to start, went to BPS and picked up one of those jig tieing kits. Just for fun to give it a try. Tied 4 this evening. Hope they don't scare the Crappie away! LoL. -Jason

Got to admit those look pretty good. Better make some more so you don't run out.

Those look nice, and yes...it is highly addicting. It's overwhelming though when you go figuring out just how many different jigs you can make when you get your material together. I think right now I'm up to around 1000 or so different combinations possible...and that's just doing solid color tails and only one weight of jighead.
No fish is too good for the grease.

Nice looking jigs Jason, I've often wondered if you could take a picture under water of a brush pile that say 50 fishermann have fished and lost jigs on.... Would it look like a Christmas tree from the sixties????? Jigum

Nice jigs, have you tied flies before? I ask because of the palmered hackle.
Good Job!

Skip Thanks for the kind words all. For those interested I got this kit: BPS Jig Tying Kit It actually has quite a bit of material to keep you busy for a while. The only thing I'd recommend adding right off the bat is a tool called a "Whip Finisher". Of course there are all kinds of other colors and types of feathers you can pick up but I'd start out with what comes with the kit for a while until you get your feet wet. I did pick up a few extra thing especially a box of assorted painted jig heads (a sampling of unpainted jig heads come with the kit). Hey, if I can tie something halfway fishable with my ten thumbs, anyone can! You should give it a try. Mine are no works of art, but it'd be fun to catch fish with something I made. It comes with a decent video and you can find more vids on youtube. I also picked up a book : The Orvis Fly-Tying Guide (Orvis) by Tom Rosenbauer It wouldn't be necessary for just getting started, but it looked like it had a lot of good information and some neat techniques that I think could be transferable to Crappie jigs. Skip, Those are my first ever! I love that hackle stuff though. Browsing on the net to learn how to start, I saw some flies with that effect and just had to try it. I hacked it up pretty bad, but I just had to try it. I'm gonna make some good creepy crawling catipiler flies for bluegill this summer. Regards, Jason

Would it look like a Christmas tree from the sixties????? Jigum LoL! Hey! Thats acually not a bad idea! Take a bunch of jig heads and cut the points off, dress'em and put a wire hanger on them. Imagine your Christmas tree decked out with jigs! Now THERE is holiday brush pile! LoL. I might have to do that next year. Hey Skip, there is a revenue stream! Jig Christmas ornaments. Mabye just some kind of gaurd to cover the point so after the holidays, they can take them down and fish them when spring arrives! LoL. -J
