Does it have a 4 or 5 pin pigtail on the trailer?
If it is a 5 pin, check your truck fuses or check where the wire from the reverse light is spliced into the last outside wire on the 5 pin connector.

On a five pin connector, the back up lights release the brakes so you can back up. on a four pin it is a mechanical action. If you back up lights are working on your tow vehicle you either have a bad connection or a secondary fuse box under the hood with a blown fuse for the back up light for the wiring to the trailer. Newer vehicles split off the wiring for the trailer to a separate fuse box so if a dead short exists in the trailer wires, it won't blow fuses in the vehicle wiring. With newer vehicles its possible to have lights on the tow vehicle and not on the trailer.

What ronnie said, that was the problem with mine. took the truck harnesss apart and the wire to the revers prong was broke, reattached it and it works great.

To verify with your ignition switch to on and in reverse you should be able to hear the solenoid actuate and release when you unplug. It will make a click sound.

If you are getting power to the by pass solenoid then you probably need to replace the solenoid.

yep, probably the solenoid. You should be abot to test the contacts with the light at the solenoid the same way you did yoru harness. This will confirm that you are getting power to the solenoid. If so, then it is the solenoid.
