Both are decent fishing platforms. Both are short boats so the glide is not all that great but the Heritage gets the nod for ease of paddling. The Mini X is more stable and gets the nod for storage. All SOTs are easier to get in and out of. I hate molded footpegs so the Heritage's adjustable pegs are better IMHO.
It boils down to a personal choice in my book. Try them both on the water b4 you buy ( at a demo, borrow a friends, or rent them both on different occasions)

I have the Heritage and love it but you are comparing a SINK to a SOT so the only way for you to know is to try both. Heart of Texas Kayaks in Belton carries both and you can test paddle their boats so that would be my suggestion.

You should practice in a controlled environment, and get instruction if necessary. It's an eye opening experience, and demonstrates how important a properly worn PFD is. Most sit insiders will carry a pump with them to pump out the cockpit when needed. A paddle float, and re-entry stirrup are also reccomended safety items.

I own a Mini-X and it is easy to re-enter in deep water. It is stable but is not fast. I can set the hook confidently in it and like it for small water for it's manuverability also. If I have to paddle distance though it is a chore as it tends to "walk" as you paddle. I prefer SOTs but it is a personal choice and you should try both. I've seen some of the DFW TKF members in both and you can probably hook up with someone to try each of them. I did see a guy in a sink in trouble in a bad rain once as he was filling up fast an the waves washing over was kicking his butt. A good man in a john boat pulled him to shore.

I've used both, and I agree that it's very much a personal opinion. I prefer sit-on-tops just for the ease of getting in and out while I'm fishing shallow rivers and creeks. Also, when I track dirt, mud, sand, etc. into the sit-on-top...all I have to do is put some water in the boat and wash the mess out via the scuppers. I also like to sit sidesaddle and fish.
I also like to take the little 9.5 Featherlite out though because a) it's really lightweight, b) it's easy to hitch up on one shoulder and walk with it, and c) I can put a skirt on and stay dry and warm.
If you ever find yourself down this way, you're more than welcome to take both the Mini-X (and I promise it won't be the pink one) and the Featherlite 9.5 out for a spin.

I'd advise a SOT any day... The Mini-X has the capability for that neat little slide-away accessory bar that will hold all of your stuff like rod holders, GPS Ram mount and FF mount. It slides forward for paddling and then back to convenient reach when you are fishing. It all comes down to function/purpose IMO. If you are only fishing small creeks and shorelines, either yak would be fine. I just think that the SOT is better in open water situations.

Bass Fro... I know its a drive, but H.O.T.Kayaks has both platforms and belton is a short drive away from the store for you to try them... If I hadn't already bought a yak... I would have picked either of the ones you are looking at. He has a post on this forum for some Blems he is clearing out...

How do you stay warm and dry paddling in a skirt? Colleen, that's just wierd. (sorry it's your night to get picked on)

Just trade my 9.5 for a Buster Boat, I have become tired of getting dumped in the lake!! ie; damn 21 ft bass boats... I would recomend a sot any day.
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the boat looking like an idiot.

I think it makes him feel pretty. I dont know if he has shared this with the rest of the family or not.

I have pics that your grandma took of you when you were little... She said "put on a skirt". My yak has a skirt (and it's not pink).
