I have a 10ft buster boat with a Minkota 40lb trolling motor. My question is what would be the best battery be for this motor and how long should it last while fishing. I really would hate to get stranded in the middle of the lake!

Thanks in Advance,
Cory

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the boat looking like an idiot.

Get the biggest, heaviest marine deepcycle battery that will fit in your boat and your budget. Look for RC (reserve capacity), the number of minutes it takes to completely discharge from full charge at 25 amps. Figure to get about maybe 75% of that as continuous run time. Your time on the water will depend on your useage.

Recharge it soon as you get off the water, and top it off every month or so if you don't use it. And check the water often...more often in summer.

also, buy you a 2/4/6 amp charger from academy or wall mart. when you get off the water, put it on the 2 amp charger and let it charge back slowley throughout the week. once its fully charged, the charger will shut off and continue to "trickle" or top it off as needed. if you need to recharge in a hurry for the next day, use the 6amp option on the charger. these things are great to have and they are only about 25.00. DO NOT get the cheaper 1/2 amp trickle charger. i went through several of them and they are garbage-all brands.

Check out the Cabelas AGM batteries. They use the Advanced Glass Matt technology and they are completely sealed.

bevo, i think you may be one of the new guys fishing the TSWTT, if so i will see you at cleburne and can show you some rigging set ups for these boats. i use a 10 foot bass raider for these tournaments and im pretty happy with the set up, would be more than happy to share some tips and help you get the most out of your rig. i catch more fish out of that boat than i will ever catch out of my bass cat.
