I have an Ranger 185VX w/150 and would like to add a jackplate in hopes it will help the boat preform better. My question is, is it worth the extra money for the hydrolic, or go with the manual on my boat, and how much adjusting is done will running? Should I go with an 6" or 8"? Never had one so don't know much about them. Please help

sets the motor further back off the pad, so the boat runs on the pad better. 6" hydraulic would be my guess. you could run in superskinny water, or shove the motor down as far as you can to run in rough water.

go 6 and manual its cheaper and a lot less work the gains from a hyd arent enough to make it worth your while on that particular model, too high with a hyd and you can loose water pressure without a low water pickup

6" hydraulic Bobs and A WATER PRESSURE GAUGE. Monitor the gauge and you WON;T have any problems.

6" manual rapid jack is 279.00
hydr. plates start around 800.00 and go up to 1200.00 and cost more to instal.
I'm installing a plate today on a 185vs with 150 yamaha.
going to be a really nice riding boat when i'm done with it.

just depends on the waters you fish when chosing hydraulic/manual... we fish salt and manual is almost silly with all of the reefs and bars we spot ahead in unfamiliar areas... instead of stopping and dodging the capt. can just slow a tad and lift her up...
I'd think a hydraulic would for sure be a must for the tournament fisherman...
BUT if you're just taking it easy? nothin' wrong with manual!
