I have a 1999 Johnson 225 ocean pro Oil injeced. Boat has run great last 6 to 7 outings. Running xd 30 oil & champion plugs. Symptoms:
Last night, crusing across the lake boat just bogged down and stalled. Got it re fired and ran to my fishing hole and boat stalled @ idle. Fished for a while and apon refire, struggled to keep running. Rpms were eratic. put in gear and stall. Made it back to ramp at only 1700 rpms.
Observations: Seems like the carbs and entire engine have excess amount of oil coating the motor. Oil tank seem to be low for the amount of running I did. Air box was coated with an oil film. Fuel filter was checked and seemed to be clear. WHITE wire plug behind fuel pump/vro seemed to have a wire harness connector possibly comming loose. Spark plugs were wet with oil.
Questions: What is the white wire harness plug and what does it do? How do you plate off vro and should it be done?
Any help would be appreciated!

VRO pump going south. better be glad in over oiled. Yes you can plate off the VRO but you will have to install an electric low pressure fuel pump. Look here on wiring: http://shop.evinrude.com/

You may be happier with a new VRO pump. If you put to small an electric pump in it may starve motor for fuel at higher rpms or worse cause a fire or fuel leak if improperly installed.

I think I now have this problem under control. Did a few test and determined # 1, 3 5 were down....checked shifter switch and found it was shorted causing the powepack to shut down those cylinders. unplugged harness a wow!!! my power is back! Will install new switch tomorrow. thanks for your help.
