I've got a question for some of you guys who fish Fork on a regular basis. I've been out there a couple of times but have had limited success. Went out on Sunday and didn't have a bite all day (south west area - coves near the dam). My question is are there certain areas of the lake that tend to produce more fish than others on a regular basis. I don't get out there but a couple times a year, and it's a pretty big lake so with my limited trips it's hard to narrow down some areas. Not looking for GPS cords or anything, just some general tips - I'm willing to work for the bites. Thanks in advance y'all!

find the warmest water and flip the shallow vegetation with jigs, senkos, and work the outside edges with a red/chartruese rattle trap type bait. WHy you down south, all the fish have moved to the northern most coves to spawn smile smile smile (i dont know.. just a theory)

The fish on Fork spawn down by the dam in about a month, They start in north end of birch, glade, running creek and slowly progress south. Fish North of both 515 bridges in march and south of 515 in April. Been that way for years.

Thanks for the replies fellas, I appreciate it. Like I said, I don't get to Fork except 2-3 times per year, so I don't have a clue as far as when they move in to what part of the lake once they leave deeper water. I probably won't be able to get back up to Fork for another month or 2. So when I do go I want to be able to find a few fish. Probably just need to hire a guide next time I go out.

i will tell you where I went last saturday. its in White Oak, about halfway back in the northwest corner. I went all the way back and to the right. theres a small boat ramp right there. all 3 my slot fish came from under the matted grass on a watermelon/chartruese 1/2 ounce jig.

Hit the coves. Like Chunk-N-Winding said. He is exactly right on how the spawn takes place. Only a few pockects on the upper part will have warm water but nothing like the coves that run East/West. Look for grass also this draws the heat from the sun and will warm the area faster. Good Luck !

speedtrap,
Ronnie told you about one of my favorite area's of Fork, White Oak. There is a pocket on the north side of White Oak as you go in that will generally has a lot of lilly pads. This is a pretty good spawning pocket especially in the back end. As you head out of this pocket the bank leading to the back of the cove has some small pockets and usually a grass line that will hold fish also. Highway cove is right next to White Oak between it and 515 and is a timbered cove that can be productive and pretty protected if it is windy.

Thanks again guys! I appreciate all the help since I'm not all that familiar with Fork yet. I'll put the info to good use next time I can get out there.

Fish the spots next month you fished last weekend..

Right Now !!
Mid-Lake and north are doing real well, I found some great water
in Glade Sunday, I couldn't believe how good the water was compared to the rest of the lake.. It was like an Oasis in the desert(muddy) water everywhere but there.. With fish locked on beds... Big time..

I hit Glade on Friday and just killed them from 1-7. Went back Saturday morning and got pissed because the water was muddier than the day before and very windy. Took off farther north and it was like pee soup up there. Headed south for clearer water and stopped in Cowhead Cove. Water was just as muddy, but colder temps. So, I held up my sign for myself for leaving fish I knew were there and went back to where I started. Right out of the shoot I started catching fish again. Lesson learned. And with the gas prices like they are it was a costly mistake.

Most of the fish were in arms running to the north last week. Temps varied from 58^ - 63^.
