I fished Thursday and Friday and caught 1. I did speak with a man in a boat who had about 15. He had caught them on a small jig under a bobber in about a foot of running water about a mile up stream. I was wishing right about then that I had brought a kayak because that is a very difficult creek to walk. I did drive and walk to where the railroad crosses Hickory Creek and caught one on a road runner. That is further up the creek than where he was. I would think the bridge will be good any day now.

Is the bridge good for anything after the crappie/white bass run later in the year?

Head, That bridge is good year round for cars and trucks ! Actually, hickory creek has always been slow for me other than during the spawning run. RV'er, I think I met the same guy that you did yesterday. He was pulling out when I was putting my kayak in around 1pm today. He had another bucket of fish and said he had taken 15 yesterday like you said. I should have asked him what he was using. I paddled all the way up where he was saying and I managed 5 total, 1 undersized and 1 largemouth. But the three sandies I kept were decent. All sandies were males. No females yet. I was fishing a roadrunner. Next time I guess I should try the jig under a bobber.

KayakGuy - assuming you put in at the bridge and went upstream, how did you get past the two white pipes that span the creek just upstream from the bridge? I thought about putting my kayak in at the bridge yesterday morning but thought the pipes and the muddy bank would keep me from getting upstream.

I normally put in at the first pipe and then just get out at the secon on the right side. It's a fairly solid bank and not too hard to negotiate. Believe me, if my fat clumsly arse can do it, anyone can :0

Thanks for the tip, JDavis. Several years ago I found out how cold the water is in March at that pipe when we had a canoe misadventure trying to disembark. I may try it this weekend if the water is not too muddy (if it keeps raining like it is now the water level may be above the pipes).
