what time of the year do the big bull reds move up in the surf and beach front

Over here on the east coast (Charleston,SC) the spring and the fall is the best time to fish for them on the incoming tide. I think its the same over where you are at.

No, red fish that big are not that great to eat.
You really need a nice 16-22 inch fish to get a good taste of reds. Mmmmm IMO.

sorry, but the best are the 20 to 24 or 25 in i think. much bigger then that, they taste funny to me.fall is the best time i've had with the bullreds. as for keppers, late june till dec was good for myself in 2007. caught over 100 between that time frame in the bayou.

I myself prefer them 16-18 inches but they are ILLEGAL to catch in Texas . Reason I go to LA a few times a yr.

Louisiana rules are nice...5/day at 16"...specks 25 at 12"
