Ive been looking around and cant seem to find anything that really suits my needs. I bank fish a lot and have a nice spot to catch crappie. I hike in about 2 miles one way to this spot so a heavy battery is out of the option. Every lighting option that I have seen is either too small or is for hook up to a battery.
Does anyone know of a good enclosed battery light? (i.e. D cell or other?)

Dubbya,Ive been using a ridding lawn mower battery with my lights. It may still be too big for a two mile hike, but its a lot better than a full sized one.

I may just have to buy a wired one and convert it to use batteries. Good thing there are a lot of resources at my job to help build/engineer something.

Are you using a backpack? That is a good way to carry weight. We use backbacks for our portages up in NW Ontario, Canada. Works well to distribute the weight. I haven't toted a batter but I bring portable fishfinder, good size tackle box and all the other stuff. Something to consider.

Yes, I use a medium alice pack with the frame. I am just trying to keep my weight down as far as possible. Its a 2 mile hike in and a 2 mile hike out. So I am toting my back pack, pole, and minnow bucket already. I think I found a good solution. I sent an email off to FishingLights.com and they suggested a deer feeder or electric fence battery. A good gel one should power a 2-4 ft set up for about 4 hours or so. Plenty of time to draw the critters in for catching!
I'm sacking trying to find something off the self and will build my own. Stay tuned for the results.

Go to Interstate batteries and get a small 12v battery like that are used in powerwheels or computer back up batteries (small and lightweight)
