Sometimes when I'm at Rayburn I set a few juglines. I have my name, address, and the date set on the jugs. However, the majority of jugs that have been set out by other people have no name, address, and date on them. Doesn't the game department (the law) require this information on jugs on all public lakes?

yes by law they have to be tagged

from the TWPD site

Quote:
Gear Tag: A tag constructed of material as durable as the device to which it is attached. The gear tag must be legible, contain the name and address of the person using the device and the date the device was set out. Date is not required for saltwater trotlines or crab traps. For juglines and freshwater trotlines, properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags
* Must be used with a valid GEAR TAG (see Definitions) attached within 6 inches of the free-floating device; gear tag is valid for 30 days after the date set out and must include the number of the permit to sell nongame fish taken from fresh water, if applicable. Properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags.
* For non-commercial purposes, a jugline must be marked with a white, free-floating device.
* For commercial purposes, a jugline must be marked with an orange, free-floating device.

the jugs themselves can be used as the tag ... or the tag can be attached to the line within 6" of the jug

They have to be tagged but I hardly ever see a tagged or marked jug or trotline. I guess the game wardens don't enforce it most places.

i spray painted mine oarnge one time, about 3 hours after running them went back and no jugs anywhere. i just knew we had a whole bunch of big uns. well about ten minutes later the game warden came by and asked if we were missing some jugs and pulled them out of the bottom of the boat. he said we were commercial fishing without a commercial fishing license, so the point is make sure them jugs are white and not oarnge or you will get a ticket like i did

Yes, I wish they did not have the white rule because I'd like to make some floaters out of pvc and noodles. But the problem is I can't find any white noodles. My girls have suggested pink or purple but I don't know if the warden would appreciate that.

Oh, they enforce it, if they see them, you can bet your bottom dollar they'll check them. There a quite a few trotliners that do not have their lines exposed or 'jugged' to show where they are to every boater on the lake, river, etc. just to keep the unwanted folks from checking them. I have always tie my lines 3-4' below the water and attach heavy weight to bring them down so a prop won't hang it nor anyone fishing for bass, but not only that, it never fails, if someone can see one, someone will end up checking it regardless if it is theirs or not. Mine are tagged before the first and last hook on trotlines...my juglines are tagged on the jugs themselves.

Game wardens will even drag areas for lines if they are known to have them and especially in rivers to check for legal tagging requirements. 30 day update on those as well.

Wrap your noodles with White Duct Tape...the dates can be written with a Sharpie and tapped over when they need to be updated. There's alway a way to compensate and still be legal.

I have a set of noodle jugs i made two years ago. I bought cheap spray paint and jus painted them white. Ye the paint eventually chips off but you just keep a can of paint handt and touch htme up.

With that advice I'm headed to Home Depot tomorrow for some paint and PVC. Hope Walmart has the noodles. Be a good project for me and the girls to work on tomorrow since they only do a half day of school. And tomorrow is the day I work half day. That said I'm tired of doing fractions...........

Paint on swim noodles don't work worth a darn. It will always be flaking off making a huge mess. Get white duct tape.

Yep, I use white duct tape on a noodle and a sharpie to tag it.

Where do I get white duct tape? The only duct tape I've ever seen has been silver or camo.
