I recently purchased a starcraft with a 1977 javelin johnson 85 horse and I've added oil to the trim it will raise but not lower..I have reversed the wires on the switch to see if it was the switch it still would raise but not lower.. No noise nothing.. Is it a pain to open up the trim box and see if the wires are connected and use a test light to troubleshoot?? Any suggestions Please ...
I also have problems with my throttle. It was difficult to put in drive and when put in reverse it still goes in foward. I have not had time to trouble shoot or take them apart but I would take any suggestions. The gearshift is probaly not to big and hopefully the trim is wireing..

I think you have up and down relays. You must have one bad.

A lot of times it is a simple wire connection problem or a solinoid or relay. With a test light, in the trim box, see which wire going to trim motor (blue or green) is getting voltage to raise motor. Then check other wires connections to see where you are getting or not getting voltage with the test light. Sounds like an internal control problem or a broken shift cable. Pull cowling to see if shift linkage is moving. Good Luck

On OMC the blue wire is up and the green wire is down. Sounds like a bad relay.

As for the shift, do as Gary said.

I've ordered both throttle and shift cables that should fix my shifter problem. I think I may have a wire connection problem on my trim.I need to find it soon an 85 horse is to heavy to lift on and off transom saver.......
