I have a 7' Falcon M FS-4-17 set up with a Shimano Sahara 2500 and the line is slapping the bottom of the rod during retrieval. Instead of being able to feel everything on the bottom all I can feel is the line hitting the rod. Is there something I can change to avoid this? I am currently using 12lb floro and using this for weightless plastics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Drop down to 6 lb line. IMHO the problem is the line size matched to weightless baits is creating slack causing the line slap. You might try a different brand of line to try and address the problem you describe.

Just curious, but how are you spooling the line onto the reel? This will play a role int that problem.

Tex,
I am spooling it through the rod but keeping the coil of the line going in the same direction as the spool on the reel.

Throwback,
Thanks for the advice I will try and down size the line size but what should I go with so that I won't have to worry about losing fish to break-offs. Also, I fish alot of E. Texas lakes and something that is fairly abrasion resistant would be key. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

What Stan said. That is exactly what I use. Leader length is about 6 ft. tied to the braid with a uni to uni knot. I pretty much use spinning tackle for everything except jigs and cranks.

Yes, moss green. Walmart, Academy, BPS, Cabellas they all have it but, Walmart probably will be cheapest.

If you do go with braid, use a backing put on pretty tight before spooling the braid.

Other note,do not crank and kick the bail. Cast and flip it by hand.

Thank you guys very much, I am going to move to the braid with a flouro leader this week. With this set up should I losing the drag to prevent it from digging in on itself? I will start working on spooling this set up tomorrow wish me luck. Thanks again for all of the advice.

There is no stretch with braid and flurocarbon so yes, a loose drag is important at the hook set.

Another thing that might help ya if your getting lots of loppy tangle is what i call it, when ya spoolign the line, lay it flat on the floor and then flip it over every 10 or so cranks. If that doesnt help, cut off bait while at the lake and sorta trolling, let the line out and then reel it back in and tie ya bait back on and you shoudl be good to go. This is mainly after FRESH SPOOLING
