I have a minn kota AT 40 foot control trolling motor. When I run it in top speed (5) for more than about a minute it quits. If I let it sit for a few minutes it will run again. If I run it in 4 it runs for maybe 10 minutes before stopping and it runs maybe 15 in speed 3. Seems like something is getting hot. I dont think it is the motor since it is under water, could it be the variable speed swith or maybe just the foot switch? anyone have this proble. I havent had a chance to get it on the water with a volt meter yet, I hate taking things apart on the lake, seems like I always drop something.

There should be an inline breaker some where between the battery and the Trolling motor, when it gets to hot it will pop and then resets itself after it cools down. I would chase it down and change it out.

No you need to find out what is causing the breaker to trip. You most likly have a bad connection: at the breaker, at the trolling motor plug connections. Check for fishing line behind trolling motor prop while you at it. Good Luck

There is no breaker in my circuit. There is a fuseable link but it would not reset itself. I replaced the plug end at the TM but not at the boat yet. The wiring from the battery to the TM is 8 guage, heavier than the leads from the TM. Any other thoughts?

mine was doing the same thing. I found out the motor was corroded, and was drawing too much current. spin the prop and make sure it doesnt get sticky at a certain point in the rotation. I ended up having to replace my tm, and wired it with 4 guage wire this time.

Some have the breaker mounted in the foot pedal. When you take your receiver plug out look for connectors or connections that look like they have been hot. You have pulled the prop to check for fishing line?
