Just purchased my first kayak at Academy last week and am thinking about trying to tackle the Brazos river near the Sugar Land area (where HWY 90 crosses it). The problem I foresee is logistical. Do you paddle upriver and then fish downriver until you get back to your starting point? Or just fish downriver and then paddle upriver. When fishing with another person ideally you would have a truck downriver to stop at and take you and your friend back upriver where you started, but I'll probably be fishing by myself so this probably isn't possible. The reason I am concerned is that when I drove by the other day it looked like the current was going pretty strongly but it may have been due to it being right after a rain.
Any help to a newbie is appreciated as well as tips on fishing the Brazos River.

when i fish the lampasas near stillhouse I paddle as far up as I can then fish back down to my start point- not familiar w/ Brazos flow so dunno if your boat can cut through. the lampasas has sloooow current with a few riffles in it to paddle/drag the yak up. which yak did you pick up?

Go with a friend. Drop off the pick up vehicle at the take out point on the down stream end and take the launch vehicle to the up stream site where you put in. It's always more fun with a friend any how. Just make sure both vehicles are parked in areas where they are fairly secure.

It's just safer to go upstream first. If you get in any kind of trouble the currant helps you back to your car. If you go downstream first, any number of things could prevent you from getting back.
Getting too tired. Increased water flow. Injuries. Equipment failure. Weather.
Check river and weather conditions before you go. Don't go alone if at all possible. Bring all safety equipment including a spare paddle.

Brazos near Glen Rose.Sept 07 I just let the water take me down the river, good flow, was always catching something. Catch and release all the way. Rhodes Canoe drove me down in my beloved truck to the drop off, and my friends and I departed for 6 hrs and Rhodes picked us up. Truck was safe, caught fish, was with friends Great day!!!!!
