My buddy and I were anchored at night just off a point in Canyon Lake. (seperate boats and yes we had our anchor lights on) There was maybe 25 feet between us. A sail boat with no lights came right between us, just missing us. He must have been on auto pilot because the captain and the cute first mate were doing the horizontal bop on deck. I started to cuss, but on second thought I should have asked them to make another pass.

Had the reverse of this story happen to me.

Fishing night time Sand Bass on Texoma, off the FFA point on a very dark (no moon) night. Busy catching Sand Bass left and right on ghost minnows when out of no where, there is a big sail boat a drift about 20 feet a way, fixing to hit us smack dap center into our boat. No time for us to pull the anchor so we just start screaming "Hey, Stop, Your Running Into US! " or word kind of to that effect.

Out pops two nude dudes from the cabin, with horrified looks on their faces. With that sight, Now every one is horrified.

Unfortunately, I'll never forget it (although I've tried).

When I lived in Galveston, I fished the surf one tuesday morning in May. My buddy and I, wearing life jackets, floated and kicked our way to the third sand bar before daybreak. We each had a rod with a gold spoon right at the tip trailing behind us. I had a small net trailing too. At the same time, we each caught a trout on the spoons 2 inches from the tip of our rods and about 2 feet from our kicking feet and I caught 2 trout in the net. Needless to say we had found our way into a huge school and caught fish until we were tired of it.

2 years ago on Benbrook lake just as it is getting dark. It was dark enoguh that I had my lights on my boat and if there was anything in the water to hit I was not going to see it. I left RS and was in the middle of the lake when a bucket in the boat about blew out so I stopped and put it under my console.

I hear splashing and look behind me to see a guy swimming to the boat and he cusses me out for about running over him...he is in the middle of the lake with no lights and swimming???? He said he swims every night across the lake and he takes off to complete his swim.

He went about 25 yards adn started splashing like crazy and yelling for help = he got a cramp. I picked him up and dropped him off in the middle of the dam and told him to either walk home or swim...but spend the time thinking about how stupid he is...

I was fishing slabs in lake Whitney when I got hung up. Well my Buddie says break it off so when I try to break it off it gives so I keep pulling and up comes a trot line. So I pull on it then it gets real heavy .So my buddie is helping me pull it up. Then I look over the side and up comes to the surface is a human head form with moss and stuff growing from the eye sockets. Well I freak out and let loose of the line and my buddie is damned neared pull out of the boat. Then his hands are caught on the line and lip of the gunwale he yells pull. So we pull the line and the head out of the water. It turned out to be a mannequin head made out of foam to lift the line of the bottom. Man I kept that thing for years and still laugh about it.

"Work" That's a four letter word to a fisherman!

Last fall I was fishing the docks a Cedar Creek after dark when a duck flew right in the back of my head. He zinged off and was gone. really scared me for a second or two, didn't really hurt though.

This happened about 6 years ago on Lake Travis, in Lago Vista, in the Property owner's park, in a deep, narrow cove.

I'd learned how to bag bass using rattletraps, casting on the other side of the cove, drawing the bait in down deep.

I'd waded out to about my shoulders and was reeling in when this 6 foot fat gar suddenly surfaced right up within three foot of me and *rolled* his whole body towards me, at the surface, showing his teeth.

I screamed like a girl (I'm a girl) and somehow managed to keep my pole while i thrashed, kicked, swam back to shore.

I felt like I'd been cased by an alligator, big gar are very deliberate and fearless.

I have never gone back to that (very productive) cove. Too skeered.

That Gar was just trying to figure out what a girl was doing out in the water like that. It had to be a first for the old boy.

Good to have you posting here MS. TXFlake.

oh and also, this was the scariest i've ever been while out on the water... back when i had the bass boat, a buddy of mine and I would take and go cat fishin at night from 8 to 8... well one night we forgot to take drinks and snacks... no dip, no cigs... so it started out a really bad night! we ended up catchin a whole bunch... but while the lights are off the side of the boat i see this thing the size of a softball comin our way... i reach down and pick up the light... it was a giant mocasin! thing was so big... i've had small ones climb in the boat with me... but i couldn't imagine this one... it was probably over 7 ft... and just scary lookin! mighta been 6 ft but it was enormous! it was probably about 2 or 3 in the mornin under the bridge in lewisville lake...

Back when there was still a Lewisville State Park I was trolling up a cove with a friend of mine and we came on a group of about 6 Coot. Five of them saw us and veered off and took off. I got about 5 feet from the last one when it looked over it's shoulder. It was so scared it took off while looking back and ran smack dab into a tree. Now I understand "Dumb as a Coot".

About 5 years ago on Ray Hubbard:

I was in a 14ft V-hull with a 9.9 outboard. I docked at Roberson Park. I was way out when the wind came up out of the south. It became really windy, really fast. Huge swells! It took me about 2 hours to get back to the dock because I had to go so slow and drive in a wide S shaped pattern up and down those swells. I made it all the way back to the dock - Finally!

I was going to beach it on the boat ramp since the wind was blowing directly into the ramp. (There are no courtsey docks at that ramp) While moving very slow toward the ramp a enormous swell came over the back of the boat, hit me in the back, filled the boat up with water and pushed the entire boat straight down under water on the ramp. I sunk my boat on the boat ramp! Never saw it coming.

About 2 years ago, Grapevine:

Me and my buddy Terry were in my boat fishing this cove that the sandbass where thick in. There were 2 people sitting in the water but we didn't pay much attention because we were catching fish left and right.

No big deal. We're catching fish and they are sitting in the water. Well, I guess they got tired of waiting for us to leave them alone so they decided to get out of the water. 1st the guy gets up and walks out. He has no swimsuite on. Then his girlfriend who also has no swimsuite.

So, we're still floating not far away catching fish and now there are two naked people putting clothes on not far away from the bank.

We probably would have had more fun with it if the fish weren't biting. But you know how it is when you run up on a school of feeding sandbass.

was downrigging for hybrids at Braunig one day and watched a guy who was anchored have a rod/reel get pulled out of rod holder in his boat, yanked over the side by a fish before he could get to it..he was in about 30-40 ft. of water, so the rod was gone..or was it?..about an hour later, I hook a striper near that spot, reeled him up and he had a line wraped around him..I removed my hook, then started working on the line..thru my fish back, and started pulling one end of line up..I "hand reeled" in another striper..released him, and started in on the other end of the line..I then pulled up that guy's rod/reel combo..the classic part of the story was the look on the guy's face when I found him anchored over near the discharge in a completely different part of lake, about 3 hours after he lost his rod..I pulled up and said "did you drop this earlier?"
