Went down there tonight to see what happened after the storm. The water is up pretty good now, but there was a hell of a cold wind by the bridge. Was jigging shallow for crappie when my rod SHOT forward and almost out of my hands, set the hook, fought and lost what was probably the biggest bass of my life. The line snapped, but not before I saw the belly on that thing. No exaggerating it had to go 9. Other than that, a few small bass, and a dink crappie. I'm goin down there tomorrow afternoon after work to the barge, I hope it'll be better than tonight was... BOB

Had the same thing happen to me there in February back in the early 90's. I was crappie fishing with minnows and 6# line under bridge on the Britton arm when I got bit.
Thing is, this fish didn't even fight until it got to the surface. I actually thought I was pulling up a large piece of brush or something. Then, as soon as it broke the surface and got a look at the boat, it shot straight back to the bottom and quickly broke the line.
Since then, the largest bass I've caught weighed just over 9 pounds. This fish was every bit that big, but whether it was due to "the one that got away" factor, the ever growing expance of time, or the untrained eye of a much younger me; I've always thought it was probably the biggest bass of my life.
