OK friends, Got a question. I bought some Berkley flourocarbon line on clearance and I've got a few questions. I've heard the pro's and con's of performance, but this is my question. The spool holds a lot of line that never even sees the light of day before it all gets stripped off during a changeout. That seems like a waste of good line. What's protocol here? Just fill 'er up and don't worry about it? Load 20# mono on 1st and transition the "using" portion to the good stuff? A little insight would be appreciated. You guys always have the answers. I'm counting on you here again. Thanks!!

Do it any way you want.
I don't much care for fluro by itself.
I do a triple on most of my reels. I start with a small mono because it packs tighter on the spool. Then I add a couple of hundred feet of braid. I finish it off with a fluro leader.

I fill half way with small cheap mono, because it packs tighter and then the other half of the spool gets the good stuff.

I use about half of what ever mono I have around but cheap. Then fill with the good stuff. I have used 20# for the backing with no problems since I don't get down there anyway. One thing I found by accident is that I had some Cajun Red Lightning bailing wire (found out too late not good for casting) so I used it. The red line for backing is nice since I can easily see when I am getting close and need to refill.

Simply wind the line from one reel to another. This puts the "used" line on the spool of the other reel and the line "that never sees the light of day" in the usable position.

Was it Vanish? Be careful. I have lost some good fish on that stuff.

Don't waste your money on the new Berkley Fireline Crystal, I bought some and it is too stiff for me, I was fishing a tournament and after 4-5 casts, I respooled with P-Line 20# copolymer.

I used 15lb vanish on Fork once and broke off a pack of hooks before lunch, never had a fish over 5lbs. Junk if you ask me. I have had great luck with Seguar and Maxima, even better with some line conditioner. As for how to spool it, I use twenty lb mono for the first 1/5 of the spool then go to your flouro.

when filling my crankbaits or crigs I will fill them all the way with no filler. Most of the time with c-rigs your making longer cast because of the heaver weight and cutting off more line when tying the leader back on. And crankbaits I am trying to throw across the county and sometimes you do a lot of retying to.
Jigfish
I catch more eggs then fish!!
