I have lived in Bozeman Montana for the last 18 years but I grew up in Dallas and learned to fish from my grandfather in East Texas on a lake called the Pure Oil Lake or Rhine Lake.
My wife and I have been looking for lakefront property in East Texas for the last year. You can imagine how difficult it is to find property from 1500 miles away. We come home once a year and take a couple of days to look around but it's never enough time to do the research that needs to be done. My hopes are that someone could offer an educated opinion on some good fishing lakes in the area. I am not totally against the larger lakes like Fork, Tawakoni, Palestine etc...but they seem to be more expensive and they don't offer the feel of knowing the water like a small lake does. Some of the lakes that seem to have what I like are Holbrook, Hawkins and Callender. Below I've listed some criteria that is a must, but beyond that I am open and very appreciative of any advice or information that anyone would be willing to give.
1. Good fishing! 2. Must be able to have a boathouse or dock 3. Nice scenery for my honey
CONCERNS: 1. Expense 2. Water level fluctuation 3. Who and how well is the lake managed
Thanks,
Lath McLeod

Having been to the frozen rock(Bozeman) i can understand your desires. Do you happen to know Marshall Cook there,a old athletic trainer at Montana State for many years. Suggestion,You might look into Lake Frankston between Frankston and Palestine on 155. A 120 acre lake and has all the things you listed. Also is close to Lake Palestine and other lakes such as that,Jacksonville,Houston County,Striker,Murvaul,Cedar Creek and others all in easy driving distance. I had a cabin on frankston for several years and sold only when I relocated to lake granbury. If I can be of further assistance just give me a holler.

Thanks Eddie. I'll check it out. I don't know the trainer that your talking about which is surprising since I work a lot with the athletic department. If you have any other thought please let me know.

I have actually been on this site already, and it is a good one. The problem is that unless you have knowledge of the lakes you dont know how the fishing is.
Thanks.

Lakehouse.com is a good site also but it doesn't give you any indication about the fishing and management of the lake.
Thanks
