I am looking at a 30' center console with twin 150hp Evinrudes on it to run offshore. It has been in storage for two years. Should I replace the gas that is in it, check it for water and pump out water and use fuel stabilizer, or just go ahead and crank her up and see what happens? The current owner wants to crank it up. I want to at least check the fuel for water. The owner promised to make sure it was running right before I take it but I don't want to wait any longer than I have to. Also there was a post on here awhile back about a fuel additive that would restore old gas. Does anyone remember what that was?
Thanks
PFD

since it hasn't been run for 2 years. DO NOT start it.

run a compression test, and a leak down test. if it's okay. then your next step is to
1) remove all the fuel
2) remove all the oil
3) instal new water pumps
4) replace spark plugs
5) replace all fuel filters, and check or replace fuel lines and primer bulbs.
6) change the lower unit oil. you should also pull the lower plug and check for metal shavings before buying! also make sure the oil is not milky colored. if it is then you'll need to re-seal the lower unit.
7) probably not a bad idea to clean the carbs also.

if i missed anything, i'm sure the tech's on here will add to this list.

good luck with your potential purchase.

oh, and don't forget to check the prop shafts, and props!

Like what Michael said would need to do things diff if motors are certain models, adding to what steve said I would spray some Kreep in the cylinders and what jtexas said with pre-mixed fuel. Motors setting for that long can be a pain and then add salt water. Best thing is the owner said he would get everthing running right but have him do it before you buy it. Guys and yes dealers to, have sudden memory lapses sometimes when they allready have your money.
