Any water is worth trying!
By the time it's known on this forum it's fished out.
Try it before everybody else does and you may get
lucky....

Lemmon Avenue area is good for carp and bullheads. Upstream, in HP below the Dallas Athletic Club Spillway and the park along Lakeside has got some quality bass, and some close to 1 lb bluegills.

Haven't seen Orlando in awhile, and another contributor to the forum, one SKIPPY, works at the same company you and Orlando do!

Skippy is a first rate fisherman in his own right! We have waylaid a crappie or two in the winter, a sandie or more in the spring, and a black bass here and there!

I do not know one SKIPPY, but I recently helped Orlando put a new trim motor on his boat. He is a heck of a guy. A few of the guys from work are hoping to get to R.C. Sunday morning and nab a few sandies.

The Lemmon-Hall section was drained and dredged with back-hoes a few years back. Not sure that effect that operation had on the fishes. However I did see some minnows there when I was just out practicing my casting skills last summer.

Another section south of Avondale Ave was drained and dredged late last year.

I think you are right Jess! it is the dallas country club. Dallas athletic club is a whole 'nuther animal! those "black" fish might have been bullhead cats. Lots of them there too

Lextech, you know me, you just don't know it. But I'm not sure which "Lextech" you are. I am now teaching tennis, that should give you a pretty good idea who I am. I grew up fishing Turtle Creek. Never caught a single bass or decent bream, but caught carp all summer long for about ten straight summers. Now, the area of Turtle Creek talked about on this thread is one that I never fished much. I have always heard that there are bass in that area, but as a kid, I didn't have the patience to fish for 30 minutes to catch a little bass when I knew I could cover a small hook with corn and catch three 6 lb. carp in the same time. If Rudy says they're in there, they're in there. The last time I fished there was last summer after a lesson in HP. I had about an hour to waste, so I took a couple of ultra light rods with 4 lb. line and a can of corn down to the spillway Rudy is talking about. I caught three carp between 4-7 lbs. and a bullhead. I also had one carp spool my reel and break the line. I'll be hitting that area for carp a bunch once it gets warmer. I teach a lot in that area.

I rode up Lakeside Dr, north of Fitzhugh/Wycliff this evening. I saw signs which said you need a permit for fishing. I'd guess that you must be a Highland Park resident to obtain a permit.

Oh yeah now I know exactly who you are skippy! I recently moved from the west ops bldg to main. I also became a member of the maroon group at that time. So how are the tennis lessons going? R.D. showed me some great pics of your recent fishing trip to Mexico. That looked like a blast. How is the young one? cheers

I had a hunch that was you. Mexico was amazing. You only saw a couple of the many big fish we caught. The kid is great. The lessons are slow, but picking up. Shoot me an email if you want to go down to Turtle Creek sometime. If you haven't caught a carp on 6 lb test, you don't know what you're missing. Hope all is well with you.
