Ok guys, I've got a Venom King Cobra 216 Coosa with a Mercury Racing 250 XS on the back. I'm wanting to find the best prop to throw on it for best top end. What is everyone else running on theirs? I was recommended to try a 27p TXP but know nothing about them. Setups, experiences? I've got a 24p Trophy Plus on there now and know it's way too small pitched for around central and south Texas. I'm not getting too far over 70mph and know with the right setup I should be around 80. Thanks guys...

80? doubtful pards, that's a lot of boat.
I don't think you can spin a 27 TXP either, that's way too much wheel.
Best place to start is where you're at now, so what are your current results? rpms? speed, all information will be helpful.

I have NO idea what that boat is, but i do know the 250XS really well.
and i do know the 27TXP's. it'll be too much on a heavy boat, maybe a 26p trophy to start with. possibly a 26 txp. i have a new one coming in, with pvs holes drilled in it.

justwingem sent me a pm, i thought that was from texas hawgs. here's what i wrote back. jeeezzz, i've been too busy to think lately..
OH. the COBRA... gotchya..lol. guess i'm a bit slow today.
on the le21's with a 250XS, i usually put on 27p Tempest's and modify them. the 28bravoI has been a good one too. the 26 txp will run well also.
that should help ya.
p.s. the 27txp is a bit "stiff"

He didn't mention what year 250XS he has on the rig. The older models have a max RPM of 5800 while the newer ones are a tad higher. My '04 currently has a 27p Trophy on it. I could easily spin a 28 trophy and would love to try a 26-27 TXP. My d/c Jag weighs 1785lbs, and the '04 Merc is a strong mota pushing this rig up to 82mph depending on conditions..

your right about the rev. limiter on the new engines. However from my experiences, the newer XS engines stop making power at 6100. I prop the new engines with more pitch to go faster.
I just sold my last blueprinted 28p trophy to a guy out in south carolina. I should be getting a new 26txp in any day. your welcome to try it out!

Hey Steve, I just talked to a guy a bit ago that's interested in my other Cobra and he actually recommended I talk to you about my setup. What are the odds? lol
Anyway, the '05 Merc 250XS I have is rated up to 6300rpms and the King Cobra is only 1600lbs, plus motor of course.
Currently, I am getting just over 70 by myself and around 66 loaded down with partner. My older Cobra does better than that with a 25p Trophy Plus on a Merc 225efi. Figured this racing engine ought to really make this '05 Cobra fly with the right prop. Have you ever set someone up with this rig?
Thanks a bunch. Wish I had access to several props to try out. ;-)

I used to do alot of Cobra's. Not many around any more.
I have lot's of props for ya to try out. With the 250XS, i'd start with a 27p Tempest, and get the motor UP.

Thanks Steve. I probably should get a wrap though. It's too dang bright as it is. It won't be hard to spot me out on the lakes. Maybe I should just get a water colored wrap or something. LOL
