Rope continues to break on trolling motor mount. this is a horrible design - AND IT SHOULD NOT BE UP TO THE CUSTOMER TO FIX. WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS SHOULD BE FIRED! Anyone else deal with these problems? The video I uploaded will explain things a little better. VIDEO PS y'all with billion dollar bass boats will probably not understand. AAARRRRGGGHGHGHGH!!!!!!!!!!

Ya, I think everyone has that problem at one time or the other (just depends how often you fish). You sound to young to be throwing a hissy fit. Looks like you need some kind of grommet in there to help cut down on the friction. http://www.grommetmart.com/_store/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=17 Look on the internet for something like this or call Motor Guide or Minn-Kota (whatever your is) to see what they recommend. And Take it Easy (it's all going to be Okay) Thanks for the grommet link sir. I'm certain that will make the problem more manageable. The problem is that its a horrible design - and frankly, it should not be the consumers responsibility to custom rig a product in order to make it do its most basic function. ''(whatever your is)'' yeah, I left the name of the brand out on purpose in order to avoid a full blown ''hissy fit''

You may chamfer the hole. Make sure it is not sharp so you don't cut the rope.

I went to West Marine and bought some really strong cord to keep in the boat just in case. I've had to do several on the water repairs and it's nice to have the extra rope when needed.

anyway, thanks for the tips guys. Richard, It worked for me. So, What now (what are you going to do)? Is it better now? See folks want to help and we all have this same problem. And I don't think they have fired that guy yet. (PS: to me it looked like a Motor Guide about 35lb mount)

Could I have done a better job? No. But its not my job. Truth is I think they fixed the design but they're still selling them on boats. As to why they still sell this thing is beyond me. This is bad for business. As to make and model I'm not ready to expose all that yet.

They break. All of them will break. That can be fixed while fishing if you have some rope. They are a wearable part but not as big of a deal compared to the motor breaking or the shaft breaking/bending. I would do the grommet thing and look for a stronger rope. I use and anchor rope in a slightly larger size and have never had one break.
Now let me tell you about the time when my steering went out waiting for the tournament to start......
