may get some big marv's ... i have some don's catfish bait (cheese minner punch bait with cattails) that some fellers that fish stamford lake have started usin' ... they had been usin' sure shot but like this don's better ... feller up in vernon tx makes it ... i guess his name is don :-)) ... i don't use punch bait very much at all ... was good to use when we had a house full of foster boys

I bought a gallon of dk cheese at the arlington fishing forum, not sure it is any good; not much smell, and using it at the same time with dk blood, has not caught a fish yet; wondering if if i need to call them for an exchange;

when buying the pints look and see if thay have the new flat lids, or the old rounderd ones, the stores still have some of the old stuff around. I screwed the lid off a new flat lid and an old rounded lid at the store other day. They were as different as daylight and dark, wana guess which I bought.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION:

SureShot Punch Bait is still one of the best punch baits available (I think its the abundance of Shad, a natural cat bait)

How do the catfish bite on this prepared bait? Do they hit it and run like they do with shad or do they sit still and suck the bait off the hook? Just wondering what to look for when I fish with prepared bait.

Most of the time They hit it and head for home. Every once in a while they will hit it and hang around, or swim towards the boat. But for the most part, they get it and go.

In no way am I trying to start a bait war here, I'd really like to fish with you one day.

The Sure Shot my Dad and I baught (one gal. from Chad, one gal. from Mr. Roberts) must of both been from bad batchs.
It had lots of Shad, but it was real "Chunky". Both gallons we baught consisted of a moist crumbly mix that wouldn't stay on the hook with a 30' cast.
We fished them side by side at Choke Canyon, and Big Marv's out fished Sure Shot by a mile.
We ended up mixing our S.S. with other baits to make a bait that we could use.
If Mr. Roberts would like to send a better sample to try, I'd be happy to give it a chance,
Other wise I'll never waste my money on it again.

Just voicing my opinion about using punch baits and my success using them.
You might personally contact Benny Roberts regarding your purchases, as for me I have never had the problems you have had.

If you have had the expierance that I have, some times one bait will work at one lake and not as well at another. Just depends on what the Catfish is wanting to eat.

I bought a gallon of cheese and of blood, the cheese is just like u say, lumps of cheese and not much odor; i have caught a few with the blood, but its not like the old bait; I am going to call them and see if they will exchange for some good old type bait; I bought mine from danny king himself at the jan arlington fishing show; i am so disappointed with them, so i ordered 2 gallons from big marv; have not fished with it yet, but it looks great!

I've always used the cheese. Bought my first container of blood a while back. Opened it up for the first time and it is PINK (was expecting more red). It had virtually no odor as well. Now that I think about it, even my last cheese container didn't have much of a smell, yet it still catches the kitties. Is this normal for the blood to be pink with no odor?

I have fished both BOB'S (BIG MARV) and SURE SHOT. I always used BOB'S until MRS. Fincher lost the bait to a fire. I then found SURE SHOT on the old Whisker Kitty web site and have used it ever since with very good success. I did very well with BOB'S and I really don't know if one is any better than the other. If the receipe for BIG MARV'S is the same then it is a very good bait as is SURE SHOT. Just my .01 cent.

Is Big Marv's made by...well Big Marv...a guide based down in the San Antonio area??? If it is I've used that stuff before, and went on a trip with him when I was a kid on Lake Brauning....75 fish in the boat each morning in 2 hrs!!!! AWSOME BAIT!!! And if that's the bait I'm thinking of where can I get my hands on some?
