The family is going to go to Joe Pool and camp/fish a couple of days in March. I have never crappie fished this lake and I am not really that good at crappie fishing. We will have the boat so we can move around.

Any advice, tips or location that we can use?
Should I use live bait or jigs?

Thanks

Based the time frame, you should be able to find them in shallow from 2'-8' deep. If it's early March when the hydrilla won't be noticable. Stumps and timbers on the south side of the lakes might be good by then. Don't neglect the bridges. Once the hydrilla is thick during late spring, then fish its pockets. Some deeper hydrillas hold fish on top rather than pockets.

Better yet, look up Crappie Master (I think his site is onthespotwithscott.com) He knows JP very well.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks Slabmesilly, but you prety much said it. The only thing is that the hydrilla will be growing but you wont see it on top of the water. It's growing under the water you have to find it with your sonor it will look like a brush pile the fish will be around it.

Walnut Creek? I prefer the main lake coves, but the water temps are just not up high enough yet. We found 61 degree water back in Walnut Creek today. However, my favorite coves were in the 53 degree range.

Just wait a few weeks there will be so much hydrilla that you wont be able to cast from the bank.
