i cant wait. im ready for some big shark and who knows what else action. hopefullt this year we'll see some tarpon show up there again.

Shrimp I lost a big Tarpon off the Galveston Fishing Pier last yr. Dam thing made a jump woke the whole pier up and said ADIOS > and stripped my reel in 5 seconds. I saw 4 caught of the Galveston Pier and saw the old state record caught off the TCD Pier. You would not believe the number of KING MACS and Lings that have been caught off beachfront piers. When it gets hot hot and the BLUE WATER comes in it is almost like deep sea fishing .

[censored] i was there the night jeremy broke the state tarpon record at the GFP. it was nuts. ive seen quite a few tarpon on piers here over the years, mostly at SLP, but some here and there at the GFP. i did see one of the most amazing things ive ever seen in my life at the GFP though. the water was full of mullet and we were fishing for the trout that were chasing them, when the biggest school of jacks ive EVER seen came in and started busting the schools left and right. there had to have been hundreds of them. my spoor 6500c got spooled, but the newell did its job and i ended up catching a few.

I love my 6500 C for the price it can not be beat. The only fished that ever stripped it was a Tarpon .

It's just great to read these reports of Tarpon off the Galveston piers last season. My thanks to those who have reported them.

Tarpon are arguably the greatest of all sport fish and for them to be back in numbers at the Galveston piers is just wonderful news, fabulous news, even though I no longer live in that area.

As some of you know from fishing history, Texas and Tarpon were Synonymous prior to and during the 50's but they got real scarce around Galveston after that. Then a few started showing up in what became known as Tarpon alley and as the years have passed more and more showed to where we now have a legitimate fishery there. With these reports of pier Tarpon fishing, one has to think we've come a long way baby!!
