Living in Brownfield, I always come in from Hwy 180, so how far is the Landmark from the Lake?

Saturday supposed to be warm and windy. Sunday back down to really cool again. bang

There is a way to get there from 180. Depends what road you take from 180 to get to JBT. If you take FM 1298 south, you can go right through on County Road 338 to FM 1205. This will take you right straight to 350 where the bait store is. It sounds complicated, but it's really a straight shot south. FM 1205 intersects FM 1298, but that will take you the long way around. Go past that intersection to CR 338. I could send you a map if you like. I have a really good Google satellite image of the roads. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the map.

What size jig do yall use? Do you use different sizes for different depths? Also what color jig? It was said earlier that black, pink, or red colors worked most of the time, but I don't know if you match the color head or another color. Thanks guys for the help, I am pretty new at this crappie fishing, if you can't tell.

Chartreuse Maribu jig heads seem to work good with black/chart beavertails or red/chart beavertails. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the color combos listed.

How shallow is shallow? Just wondering. If I could stand it, I guess I could wade out and fish 4-8' water.

Okay, this is just my way of doing things.Shallow?Try starting at the bank and working your way out to a foot of water or where the stickups start.Nothin there? Then work the stickups(probably be 2-4 feet deep)thoroughly and I do mean thoroughly.Crappie this time of year tend to bite one of two ways- either real aggressively and thump the ?*&$#@ out of it or you have to hold it still and try to detect the lightest of inhales(watch your line-slack line=fish). The ones I caught 2 weeks ago were in about 12-18" of water and just off the brush, real thumpers too.Course you gotta realize, I've only been crappie fishing(did I say fishin-meant CATCHING!!!!) for about 40 years and I mean 40 years. It has got to be the most intuitive, frustrating,God pleasingest(He is probably laughing a little) thing on the earth to try and catch those delicious morsels and deliver them to a plate of fries, slaw and cornbread(the only true friends a crappie ever has)that you will ever get to pursue,SO....have patience, grasshopper, you will someday soon snatch the jig from my hand.

God willin', I'm fishin.

Thanks BKG! I guess we may try it tomorrow or Sunday morning. I am headed to WalMart in the morning to get the suggested stuff. Hopefully you professional crappie guys left some bait for us beginners.

Went yesterday. Boat wouldn't stay running and the wind whipped my a$$! Tried the points east of the boat ramp and got nothing. Took 30 minutes to load my boat on the trailer. Not fun.

OKAY!!!Fresh fillets are fixing to meet hot oil!!Only one problem.... all I caught were LMBs today. All were in shallow water,1-2.5' and all came on electric chicken crappie thunder.Sizes??? 7#2oz., 4#2oz.,4#1oz.,and a 2#10oz.Actually was a lotta fun but a little disappointing not even catching one slab. Oh well.....gotta go...the oil is hot!!!

Well we didn't know what "electric chicken crappie thunder" was either, but we did try black with black/chart, black/pink, red/white. Also white jug with the same combos and plain chart. Fished the pickups around the south side at both parks. Dang that water is cold still (wading with no waders). I did get 1 crappie to jump up next to me and a couple of bites, but the wind was messing with the line so bad I couldn't feel it til it was too late. It was a good day though, beat the !@#$ out of sitting around the house.
