I say if it was meant to happen, it was meant to be, go in the water, the hell with snakes and gators, we're the top of the food chain. Gator probably tastes pretty good anyhow...LOL

I really don't think any of you guys should wade at Lavon this coming Spring. There's way too many snakes for you to be out there trying to catch those 2# crappie that are next to EVERY bush. I wouldn't do it if I was you...but I'm not you so I'll go ahead and catch those crappie that you won't be fishing for, cause after all....somebody's gotta do it thumb

I'll always remember wadin with Jerry a few years ago, and I stepped over a log while keeping my eye on a big ol snake, I got my foot stuck, and was taking COLD water into my waders, and the snake dissappearred (sp?) That was some COLD water. That was a big snake!

It was funny after the fact. But, when I couldn't get my foot out, it wasn't so funny

Ive been fishing this area since 1983 and have never seen a cottonmouth except below the dam at Lewisville.99.9% are diamond back water snakes and are harmless.

Cottonmouths are usually black but will be brown in color when young. They have the Diamond shaped head and fat bodies with a short tail.(Their head are usually as big as their bodies) Water snakes have a slimmer head with thinner bodies(Their head are smaller then their bodies) and usually yellow bellies. Cottonmouths will have the "cat eyes" a slit in the pupil, while the water snake has solid pupils. Most people call Cottonmouths, Water Moccasins. They can bite under water and they usually stay away from humans unless you threaten their nests. Then they become very aggressive. If you are bit stay calm. You have 4-5 hours to get to a emergencey room before major damage occurs.
I have been struck at several times and bitten once by a snake.

I've been wade fishing in the past and have had them swim between my legs, it's a little spooky feeling something bumping your legs in two foot of water and look down and see that but not to bad. Now a gator is a different matter, I don't want to see him swim between my legs.

John there is only one thing I want swimming between my legs and it aint no snake in the water! lol... I was almost cured of tubing two yrs ago, had a snake curl itself on the net of my tube! I floated around the lake for four hours moving as the wind and current pleased until a very nice game warden came up to me in the middle of the lake to see what was going on. I was frozen and didn't speak. He saw the issue at hand, removed the snake ( stupid stupid stupid, I thought I was a toast, Wasn't cold leg very very warm!! :)) and helped me into the boat. I swore I'd never go back! Found myself in the exact same spot fishing with a buddy this time, 2 months later! Stupid stupid stupid! sick laugh
