I've decided to purchase a LMS-520C this weekend and have a few questions if anyone has any knowledge on them.

-Who is running one unit on their boat? I'm thinking about having a transducer switch placed on mine and just use the 520C for bow and console.

-NAV Planner, worth the money? Is it compatible for Hot Maps Premium?

-When you place the Hot Maps chip in your unit, are you plotting waypoints and routes on the card itself?

-What are some things that will destroy the NAV chip (besides corrosion)?

Thank you for you input.

hotmap chip is just a overlay on the lake, no wpt are save to the card, unless you save it to the card. i wouldnt recommend saving anything on your mapping card.

you can destroy mapping card by trying copying it to another card.

fyi starting this fri. thur sun. at both basspro in D/FW area, ther will be lowrance pro-staff to answer anymore questions.

I am running 2 of them networked. The front one has 2 transducers switched. I don't understand your use for bow and console.

No they go into a file in the head.

-What are some things that will destroy the NAV chip (besides corrosion)?

Trying to write to it can cause problems. There is a write protect switch on most sd cards. Close it and you can't write to it by mistake.

If your thinking about moving the unit from bow to console that would be a pain. Three connections to take off and on each time and remove from the mount and back on each time.

Either consider a Ram Mount on the console that you can just turn 180 to point to front and possible see from bow. Or possibly consider Humminbird with thier quick connect, Like maybe the Humminbird 595c Combo.

-NAV Planner, worth the money? Is it compatible for Hot Maps Premium?

I don't use Nav Planner, sorry. I don't see a need to.

-When you place the Hot Maps chip in your unit, are you plotting waypoints and routes on the card itself?

No. They go into your units internal memory. Nothing goes on the Nav Hotmaps card. But you do need to back-up your waypoints from time to time on your own separate work SD Card and then I also suggest download/copy that to your computer for additinoal backup.

-What are some things that will destroy the NAV chip (besides corrosion?

Giving it to a friend to borrow (just kidding, kind of). Don't copy or even stick it in your computer at home. as mentioned earlier.
