I just got a hella deal on a brand new humminbird matrix piranhamax220. If I can ever get over this flu, I'll be putting in on my new GATOR(cobra navi-gator). You know your dealing with a smart person when the first thing they do to their brand new kayak is drill holes in it!! That's OK though. I got to get this thing ready for the annual "deliverance style" paddle/camping trip that's going down on March 20-23 up Spring Creek on Ray Roberts. It'll be four days of camping, fish catching, good eats and drinks and "jack-arse" antics..Good times!!!! Is there any info on this trip over on the Texas Kayak Fisherman board? Scary thought!!!

what about the transducer? if i got a regular fish finder, i don't want to drill holes in the bottom of my kayak. would like to find a thru hull transducer. where would i find one? is there any fishfinders that come with either?

Most new ff have xducers designed to also work through the hull. I lightly sanded the bottom of the xducer and the spot inside the hull then put a round dot of Goop about the size of a nickle and duct taped the xducer over it. Be patient, let it setup for 3 days before messin with it. It works great. Depth, temp, etc. all work good.

Not to derail this post but... This is just an unoffical camping trip that my friends and I go on once a year during the spring spawn, a "MAN-cation" of sorts. We usually load up my boat with gear and I tow my kayak in while the other guys paddle up. Last year, my starter was jacked up, so we had to overload a buddy's SMALL jon boat up and use my trolling motor to tote the gear up. This was a great idea, until the battery went dead on the trolling motor, and we had to tug the boat full of stuff and our friend back to our launching point. See the photo below. That's 3 of us towing back a jon boat full of gear. We usually catch a lot of fish, have a lot of laughs(mainly about stupid things done on previous trips) and sit around BS'ing for three days. Hopefully the weather is in our favor this year. Last year the lake real low, so there was more bank, but it was real muddy. The water was about 15-20 degrees warmer than the air, which was a good thing because I wound up getting wet 10 minutes into the trip!!! I've often thought it would be cool to have a real TKF type camping trip out on Wolf Island on Ray Roberts some time. Everyone could paddle out to te island from the boat ramp.

I was out there camping several years back and we got ran off in the middle of the night by a Game Warden and sheriff.

Oh well...That figures.. God forbid any tax paying licensed fisherman spend the night somewhere without TP&W or the corp of engineers getting their $7 for the camping spot. It's only public property when it's not working in the public's favor.

So your saying the cops will come and wake you up and make you move? Thats pretty crazy. The cops must really be bored. Maybe they should go check the licenses and sizes of the fish caught by some of the bank fishermen and actually do something productive.

My Smartcast was okay (I guess) just kind of inconvienent. I have the watch and with it on my wrist I had to stop paddling to check it. I moved it to my rod holder and it was so far away I couldn't see it very well. Just not as user friendly as a full sized/featured fish finder. IMHO
