Sounds like they are starting to pick up a little. It is a good drive from the austin area for me. Might have to try it out anyway next weekend.

Shut up and fish!

Bobcatt, we were upriver in the shallows. I was informed that you had to have a boat to go down river because it was too deep to wade but I do not know, because I have never been that direction on the river. See y'all out there on Sunday!!!

ok, i was thinking the primitive camping area was way downstream from the ranger station and parking. i hiked in a couple miles one time and camped down stream. mostly likely i will give it a try thursday and give a report when i get home.

Looks as if I have it timed just right. I'll be on the river March 12-16. 1 good rain this weekend and sunny days next week and it will be on.

That is correct, you will need a boat if you go downstream. Fishing from shore is ok, but there is a channel that they travel in, thick enough that at times it seems you can walk on fish clap

I'm headed down friday..took the day off. We are camping at the park with out a fire of any sort...I have never heard of such a band where they won't even let you use a colman lantern. Does anyone have an updated fishing report? We normally catch em down from the boat ramp a mile or so. What's the bait of choice? ..."what are you use'n"

i still think the best way is fried.

gave it my best shot this morning. saw hogs, turkey, dove, rabbits, squirrels, armadillos, deer...and caught 2 dink large mouths. fished all the way from the the boat ramp to the island and everywhere inbetween, tried every drop off on every side of the island from 8-11:30. a good number of other guys out, only saw 1 guy that had 2 whites. heard a report of a kayaker with 10 or so but didn't witness it.
