I own a 1999 merc 225efi and was wondering if these will help performance? What is your experience with these aftermarket parts? I like the idea of smoother idle, less fuel, etc. just wanted someone elses first hand advice.

I've run them in 2 different 200 EFI Mercs. They helped the idle and the low-midrange noticeably. I couldn't positively say that they helped the top end any, but they definitely didn't hurt.
My last set ran for 5 years, and when I pulled them they were pretty ragged around the edges. But they still ran well.
My next set will probably be Tony Doukas reeds. I think they are a carbon fiber. They are supposed to be the hot setup.

i ran them in an EFI merc. years ago.
they will allow you to run MORE rpms safer. say up to about 6300, but to get the full benefit out them, you'll have to work on setup and possibly some prop tuning.
i ran my ole efi at 6200-6300. 200 efi, on a 191 elite champ. and a 150efi, on a gambler intimidator.
i do agree that the carbon fiber reeds are the cat's meow nowadays. been hearing alot about them on drag motors.

A little better at idle and ya "might" see some low ta mid range response improvement. Nothin' on top end. Tha "rubber" coated "sport jet" type are just as good on a fishin' motor. Just a reed change shouldn't cause any set-up changes........TW

Jay Smith just called me, so i took the opportunity to clarify a few things with him.
1) i was wrong about the carbon fiber reeds. he said they are brittle and when they flex the whole reed will break! big time damage. 2) he likes the Dukas Resin Fiber reeds, like what's in our pro-max's already. 3) on his drag motors he has special reeds made out of japan. they are white. and are very durable. he sells them for 175.00, vs. a set from mercury for 400.00 4) modifying engines is ILLEGAL if you mess with the emissions. such as the OPTI-MAX, ETecs, etc. IT's NOT legal for a marine dealer to modify engines, or mess with emission controlls on "GREEN" engines.
hope that makes sense to you guys.
