All this trailer racin is gettin good!!

I have a funny story about a man and his Cat. This man will remain nameless to protect the innocent. I had met this guy at the boat show at Market Hall and he was talking all this smack about how fast his BassCat was. I just happened to be working the booth for Fishin' World and we had a couple of Bullets in there.

I had owned three Panteras with big Yamahas, one with a Phase II HydroTec Yamaha that probably made 245 h.p. and this was back in 1990 when a 200 was a big mota. thumb

Anyway this fella went on and on about how fast his Cat was and how he wished he could get up beside one of them Bullets. Well, a few weeks later as luck would have it, me and a buddy were fishing a spot near Rainswood and he came cruisin by. I waved him over and he came to us. popcorn

I asked him if he would like a ride in a 94 mph boat and he said "Sure"! He said his boat would run about 88 so he was used to high speed but he wanted to see how a Bullet rode just to satisfy his curiousity.

So my buddy jumps over into his Cat and and he jumps into my boat and we take off in the Bullet. I go down the lake about a mile or so to make sure there are no floaters in the boat lane. He leans over and yells over, "this thing runs pretty good." I turn around and hit the gas...

We go flying down the lake at about 90 and I slow down to take him back to his boat. I pull along side his Cat and he goes to climb out of my boat and his legs were shaking so bad that he almost fell in the lake trying to get out of my boat back into his. Richie & I laughed so hard we almost split a gut! rolfmao

You know it is truly amazing how fast some of the older boats were before gps... noidea

Ken

Bring it on down to Fork as I have to see this mid eighties Cat.

If you can prove it, the $ 100 will more than pay for your gas.

100.00 bucks wont even cover my gas to drive to fork and back, much less would i want to get my love out there in the middle of that circus.

How about we hit a local lake at your convenience ? I will bring my boat and run side by side to see the mid eighties.

no thanks, opening up my bassmaster magazine every month and seeing the 2 page ad for my boat winning the JD Power Award year after year is enough gratification for me smile [/quote]

I saw the article, and I would agree as well that BassCat makes a great boat, they just do not make a mid eighties boat, and that is what you boasted about.....Go back and read the first post, the authors point was all the people bragging about speed and never able to prove their point.... as always money talks and you know what walks....

Enjoy your Cat, they are excellent rides.

thanks man. in case you havent been able to tell, i have been jacking with you guys from the begining in this thread. i get bored at work and i wanted to chime in smile
i dont care about traveling that fast in anything, much less a bass boat of my own. i am a poor young white boy and cant afford to be blowing powerheads and bashing into stumps and such.
if you look at some of my old posts in other topics, you will see that i just got this ride a couple months ago and I am still learning how to really run this boat. i went from a bass buster to a bass cat cougar with a a 250, this is my first actual bass boat! while its nice to know the speed is there IF i need it, the reason i got this boat was its fishabilty and durablity.

i can tell you that it has gotten up to 75 mph with me and another good size fellow in it (and HE was driving, lol) , and there was still more throttle to give.

paul, if your reading this the time has come to get out to benbrook! i know you can show me how to get the most out of this rig!! i've got to be able to outrun john to the weigh in for the thursday night tournies!!

Please give us some details on your set up. I have alway loved BassCats but never knew you could get one to run mid 80mph. What motor, setback, prop, modifications?

its a 2005 cougar ftd dc, same year yamaha 250 hpdi, mercury 25p tempest. not sure about the jack plate settings, just know that 2 different people who i would consider experts on these boats say that the engine height was sit perfect by the previous owner.

as far a modifications go, i have shaved off all the edges on the cap and hull, then i rubbed wax all over the pad. it runs super fast and smooth, but now i cant seem to get the boat to go any other direction than straight! nuts

mmmm, 6000 rpms X 25p div. 1.75 (gear ratio on a 250 hpdi) div. by 1056 = 81.16883 - 10% slip = 73.05 (at 75gps) your slipping 7%.

I'd say at your previous post of 75mph, that boat is running GREAT!

Your boat will never run 80mph with a 25p Tempest.

If your running that many or more rpms, you need to go up to a 27p Tempest, and your boat will then be capable of running closer to 80.
I just got in a new 27p Tempest if you wanna come by and try it out.

not trying to "tick" you off, just trying to help you my friend!

steve.

Now there you go again Steve with all them quantum physics...

Just put a bunch of cup in that sucker and let 'er rip! You don't need all them high falutin big pitch propellers to go 80 mph in a bassboat. Every boat with a 2 hunnerd and fifty horsepower mota will go way over 80!!

Whats a matter with you??

Ken

Had less attention been placed on the boats/speed of this tournament, I'm sure more folks with slightly slower/less expensive boats would be fishing it. I'm still debating on fishing the tourney but I have a few issues. 1) I'm here for a few more weeks and then I go back to California. If I find some good fish I might just try and bring some of that sweet Texas cash back to Cali where it dont spend as well. I can't imagine what that would do to the Bullet owners of Texas. 2) I might feel bad taking a bunch of funds from folks who just wanted to show off and play speed racer. HA!

Yo whats up with the Demo rides? This is going to be fun...

I'm in and I have a slow boat. I'm going to try and "draft" behind them...Even then I think the closest I'll get is the moment before they put it in gear.

Take their money! They'll just make more racing BassCats.... grin

At the end of the day nobody really cares who has the fastest boat. It is about catching the biggest bass. We could have called it the "Lake Fork Open Slow Cheap Boat Big Bass Tourney" if you think that would have been more attractive to more folks??
