So I purchesed a duck boat a couple months ago, and well why not start fishing. I know jack diddly squat about fishing other than what im watching on YouTube. So i go to Academy to get some fishing supplies....Damb theres a lot of stuff in there. So if you see me asking stupid questions abot gear please excuse me.
So here is a few.
1. What color line and Poundage..brand? My pole i got says 1-4
2. What is the best bait for Crappie?
3. What is the best time of day to fish.
4. If you troll what speed do you go?
5. Where can i get a map of all the ramps at a lake?

Don't worry we all ask the same questions no matter how long we have been fishing. Too much tackle makes for an empty wallet, not enough tackle and no fish. What's a person to do?
The quick answer is to engage a guide to take you out and teach you the ropes. Most of them provide the gear needed. You'll save money by not buying everything everyone says you need and you will probably wind up a step or two ahead.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Thats solid advice about hiring a crappie guide to help start you out right!!! Go to the crappie board and ask away!!

Buy a Texas Gazeteer, it has all the ramps and a lot of back roads and stuff like that.

Hire a guide like Ernest Paty or Chuck Rollins or both and hire some other guides too if you can afford it. I've never been fortunate enough to fish with Ernest or Chuck but their posts are spot on in my book.

Try to resist the temptation to buy too much stuff until you learn a little more.

Maybe get some road runners in 1/8 and 1/4 oz, they catch everything and you can't fish them wrong.

Minnows will also catch everything. Use a size 1 or 2 gold aberdeen hook and bb size split shot.

Just get a Zebco 33 or two for now.

Put yourself about a $200 fish finder on that duck boat and look for dropoffs and creeks and if you are lucky a brush pile.

Oh yeah, troll for crappie at about 1.5mph or so. When they bite best gets into a lot of opinion, just go when you can.

Have fun!
