what prompted you to think about rebuilding - performance issue? with a little bit of care, that motor will still be running when they stop selling gasoline.............

Since you don't have a location on your post. I would think you need a MAJOR tune-up. That motor should kick just about any boat in the arrrrrrr and do you and it proud/ If your close to San Marcos, come on by and we'll check it out..........

compression test should tell ya what you need to know - expect probably 120's, anything over 100 would be fine, [edit -- see TLW's post below for compression expectations...sorry bout that] but more important is the difference between cylinders - if the lowest is within 5 or 7% of the highest, you don't need a rebuild. did you follow the link & sync procedure in the manual after your carb rebuild? spark tester (few bucks at autozone), set it at 7/16" and look for a sharp blue snap all around. all plugs should be out for this test and leads need to be grounded to the block. fuel line holding pressure? is the fuel fresh? this procedure right here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158076will do a world of good. But compression test before anything else.

Where ya located unionman? I beg ta differ but that motor is only gonna make 80 ta 90 lbs for tha norm. 100 lbs with a little work. They are a low compression motor compared ta Merc. Which VIP have ya got?
