i have to tell that i'm new in fishing
lately i have been trying to catch some carps but my friend get those very easy with plain white bread, i want to use something diferent, boilies look good to me but i have to ask to the experts, about using boilies for carping in rivers and lakes

until now i just get two cats using a mix bread and strawberry soda

I personally like using boilies but at the same time I use white bread on a hair rig as well. I do seem to have good luck with them compared to others on here and almost always have at least 1 boilie out at all times. Try boiled field corn as well

I have bought more boilies than I should probably admit. I have at least 5 different brands and many different flavors. I usually always use 1 pole with boilies while fishing...

That being said, I recently had to admit to myself that I have caught nearly all of my fish and my biggest fish on bread or sweet corn.

Now, part of it, like any bait, is confidence. I also think part of it is I don't do many long sessions where it seems to me boilies present a big advantage.

I guess the main thing I have learned is don't limit yourself and let the fish tell you what they want. Heck, last week I finally caught a fish on fake sweet corn. The Enteprise Immortal Range sweet corn is great and you dont have to worry about it flying off the hook!

Shhh! The bait vendors don't want you to know that. wink

It's no accident that boilies were invented in Europe rather than America. I think many carp anglers over there would admit that boilies may not be the best bait overall, but they do partially solve the problem of fishing in highly pressure waters that also contain a lot of "nuisance" fish. We don't have much of either one ('cept catfish and sunfish), so, while boilies are fun, they are not as important here as elsewhere.

Now, I'll probably get a lot of responses refuting my argument, which is okay. What really matters is that carp can be caught on a lot of baits--we just have to use what works. smile

I think that boilies aren't for everyone nor do they catch all the time. Applied correctly and with purpose, they can help you catch bigger fish.

When you use boilies do you also chum with them, or are they supposed to be the "treat" among all the chum?

I make them a treat amongst pellets/maize/method mix(chum). When I pva bag I break up one or two boilies in the pellet mix so the fish can get a taste for the boilie and then take the hook bait with no problem. I did get a boilie throwing stick and threw a bunch of boilies out sunday fishing but it was more of "how far can I throw these things"

That's one thing that's cool about carp fishing. Even when you're not reeling in a fish, there are lots of other fun things to be doing.
