just a quick question for you guys. ive always been a fan of shimano spinning reels. lately i have been looking at pflueger reels, and have thought about purchasing a couple. does anyone have any feedback on the president models? also, how are the cheaper penn models? im looking to spend around 50-60 bucks. any suggestions?

Don't know about them but I stopped using anything but Okuma spinning reels. Super smooth and reliable, zero problems over the last 5 years...and some models are on sale now at Dick's Sporting Goods.

A third for Okuma, Their drag systems are second to none.

My only complaint from the 8 Okuma spinning reels at my house right now, is I'm a bit rough on gear. While they hold up fine, the finish is not the strongest, and scratches show in the finish fairly quickly.

Make that 8 Spinning reels, and 3 fly reels.

Don't know about any brands other than BPS, Shakespeare,Abu-Garcia Cardinals, Shimano and Daiwa.

Daiwa reels with the "twistbuster" feature are pretty good in my experience. That feature really works.

I don't think they make the Regal Z anymore, but I believe they still have a model that is under $50.00 and has that feature.

I have fished spinning reels for years and Daiwa is the ONLY brand I have used that eliminated the line twist almost completely. I have had a Regal Z 2000 for 6-7 years and have had to remove a line twist less than 5 times.

I have a Shimano Spirex that is a great reel but as soon as I fill the spool with line, I can plan on having at least 3 line twist "incidents" before things settle down and I can fish without any problems.

The reels are solid and the drags work well for me.

I vote for Daiwa.

I have a Pflueger Trion and love it. No problems in the last 2 years I have had it. And I am by no means easy on my gear.

Just looked at Dick's website and the Okuma Epixor's are about $20 cheaper than they are at Cabela's. Wish I would have known that 2 weeks ago. Lol.
