Showed up at the south jetty at 6:30, at low tide, and made our way to "red fish cut". I was a little worried as we were fishing AFTER the front but we love to fish so we deceided to give it a whirl.Caught two slots right of the bat around 21-23". Waited another hour before the next bite. Caught two more slots the biggest around 25". Tide started to come in and with the wind direction things quickly became soggy. Sarah and I moved closer to the beach, although we were both a couple of drowned rats at that point. One of my TDL 15s buttoned up and ran off like something serious. Two couples were walking around on the back side of the jetty and watched and took photos as the chaos unraveled. I grabbed the rod and the fish stripped off line and headed towards the end of the jetty. I put on a little heat but that didn't have any effect of the brute. She kicked my as# up and down the jetty as waves crashed over me and poor sarah who was holding the net. Finally turned her head the right direction and landed her in about 15 min. Measured her 44", took a few pictures, and let her go on the backside as not to harm her in the wicked rough surf to go and release the several thousand babies she carried in her belly. Beautiful weather and a nice stringer to boot with an added slob bull to boot. Whoever said this is a slow time of year to fish in texas is smoking crack....

Its easy living this time of year for reds. we have fished about 7 trips the last 30 days and haven't had a single trip when we didn't catch at least one slot red. Even better is that we haven't caught a single rat red and you don't have to worry about all of the smaller fish tearing up you baits. The only days when its been a bit of a struggle has been when the water is too dirty (weed and trash) otherwise its a sure thing to hook into at least a few slot reds. No trout yet, water still a little cool for the surf but hopefully will pick up in the next 30 days. Also, don't worry about fishing the big baits. We've caught all of our fish including the two bulls on live shrimp. good luck..

Where are the Jettys located at in Galveston? I would prefer the location to the South Jetty? Thank You and sorry for the inconvenience.

Seawall until it dead ends. Turn right and head towards East Beach. Once in East beach turn left and keep going until you reach the galveston channel. Longest Jettys in the world (7 Miles long) can't miss em.

Is there any advice as to where to go or whats really biteing right now? last time i went was maybe a year ago in like mid april maybe and we went to the pier in galvaston. the water was really clear and we caught some specks and some spanish mac's do any of those run any time soon?

Depends on what the water looks like. By that time there will be plenty of black drum to catch in the surf. Right now there are loads of slot reds on the outside of the south jetty, plently of black drum around the boat cut on the north jetty and in the channel around seawolf park. Water should be warm enough by the time you get here as long as you can get to the green water to catch some specs in the surf. There are always some nicer sized specs in the bays if you like wade fishing and throwing top waters early in the AM. Good luck.

man you talk to me about saltwater like i would talk to someone about fresh water lol the only two time that i have gone i used live shrimp me and a buddy went to sea wolf park one day but it was about to rain and was really windy. we waded in the water and i caught one speck on a speck rig i think they were shartruse. while i was in the water i saw a big fin about 15 yrds from me, i got kinda scared my friend laughed and said it was a dolphin. the other time was the time i went to the pier, do you recommend me going to the pier or sea wolf park

Go to the south jetty, plenty of room and plenty of fish.

I just might have to take the yak to the jetties and look for some of those "slob" Reds next. Nice report Fred!
I dont fish with bait but I am sure a Gulp Shrimp bounced off those rocks might work wonders.
