Just a reminder, this happened last year on Ray Hubbard, if your driving around on dry grounds remember your catalytic converter can start a fire and YOU can be in a serious position before you know it. Might not be a bad idea to have a fire extinguisher in your car just in case. I like to travel to off the beaten paths for crappie fishing and this was just a heads up for me last year when I rescued these guys.
Me and a buddy was fishing the north end on Ray Hubbard (creek channel) on Sunday the 17, saw a couple of Jeeps roaming around while crappie fishing, noticed one got stuck and was waiting for his friend to pull him out. Well his friend got him out and it wasn't 15 minutes later noticed that it looked like he was stuck again. I looked back a few minutes later and noticed that the Jeep had 2-3 foot flames comming out from underneath the car and the guys were just standing there a few feet away from it, finally I hollered out that they need to move away from the Jeep. At that point I saw one man and three kids moving towards the waters line, remember WERE A LONG WAY UP THE CREEK CHANNEL, by this thime the Jeep is fully engulfed in flames and black smoke filling the skys, flames at this point 3-5 foot. About approx. five minutes later I notice another kid and then another adult comming out between the fire and some brush, then I relized that the second Jeep is now on fire and cooking like a BBQ dinner. Me and my buddy have now stopped fishing and sitting there shaking our heads and asking ourselves what the hell is wrong with this picture. We're totally stunned, yep I've seen stuff like this in the movies but there we were sitting watching it close up and personal (HDTV). I told my bud were going to have to get these people out of here because there was no way they were going to walk out with the fire and 3-4 foot brush, and delta marsh land conditions especially with four kids. I looked it up on google earth and it appeared they were 3,4 and maybe even 5 miles to walk out of there, Cr945 @ 205 was going to be there best bet if they did. The other gentlemen in the other boat had already headed towards the people to take them to shore, they had a boat load already besides taking these six folks on board so we got beside them and trolled to the middle of the creek and unloaded a father and son into my boat and headed for the 66 boat ramp. Once we got to the boat ramp the one guy in our boat stated that they had driven from Burleson and said they would call there wifes to come pick them up. So these guys drove an hour plus to burn down two jeep and the country side. Can you imagine the butt chewing those guys are still receiving? It was one fishing trip I won't soon forget.

Saw Mill Rd- Been doing that Deal for awhile back in the 80's.
I would worry more about Someone stealing a CAT of my Vehicle then it causing a Fire. Thats just Me though.

Kudos to you guys for helping them out. That shows a lot of heart. We have a lot of trouble with hunters doing that here in this part. We even had a Ford Fire truck several years ago. we were on a grass fire and needed to talk to the guy in the truck and when we all stopped, we wound up having to dive under it and put it out lol.

Just to add a little, a General contractor with my company went hunting in the company truck. He shot his deer. It was late, so he pulls the company vehicle up to shine some light while he cleaned the dear. The truck caught fire. Needless to say, he caught a lot of hell at the christmas party.
Cast it out and see what happens.

That's why I posted this, heck I'm sitting here typing and the wind outside is gusting to 30+ mph, with all the new home building in that area if a fire were to start on a night like tonight hell it might burn down the whole country side leaving many folks without a home and furnishings. There's only one other time I was as stunned in my life and that's when my dad, brother and I was on some propery dad had at the time and was planting a spring garden. My dad managed some how to get his his leg caught up in a tiller, heck when I saw him he was hopping on one leg and dragging muscles and tendens on the ground from the other leg when I saw him coming to the truck, talk about time just freezing. The boy the entire trip back tried to comfort his dad but by this time the dad was in shock. I've had dreams about this event from time to time watching those adults and kids standing by the creek, it's a haunting memory, luckily we were there to help them out.

My son and I were in the other boat. Thanks for the help carrying those people out. That was one big fire. Did you hear if anything happened to those guys. I went back up there later that evening on hwy. 205 and game wardens and fire dept. were trying to get down to the area but were not having any luck.
