We launched out of Airport ramp about 830 went up a few miles but could not go way up like some small john boats it was to shallow for my boat. We caught 23 but did get reports of people who went way up that got thier limit. We then went down from the airport ramp to the old bridge right before the 59 ramp and caught another 26 ended up with 49 keepers left about 430. caught most on rattle traps. The bigger females we caught still had eggs.Another good day of fishing

Hey Polar Bear, Thanks for the report. My wife & I are heading down tomarrow (Sunday). We are planning on putting in at Airport Rd. How far can you go upstream before it gets to shallow? How was the river going toward hwy 59. deep, shallow? I have an 18 ft. bay boat. Thanks. Mike.

My neighbor and I were there on Thursday, and we fished not far from the launch at the airport rd, and we caught two limits in about three hours, and never left that small area.

When they are in there like they are now, you really don't have to run all the way to the real shallow water and what some call rapids, especially if you have a big boat.

It's just a lot of unessessary wear and tear on props and lower units trying to navigate that shallow water.

Everyone seems to bee-line for that area, and it gets really crowded and you almost have to tie up to the back of someones boat once you get there.

I've caught fish right there at the launch while waiting for others to take their turn pulling out of the ramp.

Hope to try again Monday.

Just one more cast!

Chief About 3/4 of a mile up was the 1st shallow spot the river bended left and the shallow part was to the right side of the river if you hang left by some brush in the water it was deeper. but after that it would go from 8 to 2 ft. we went 2 amybe 2 1/2 miles up and there were 2 or 3 shallow spots. Down from airport we did better. No shallow spots crused just have to watch for floating logs and debre. about 3 miles down there is a old broke up bridge we trolled right before the bridge to just before the river bends right. We trolled and when we caught one we would use the trolling motor and cast till they quit and then start again. We worked that area from about 130 till 430 and did well caught best on crome rattle traps. They are still working their way up several still had eggs in them. Not sure if you are familier with that area but the 59 bridge ramp is only about 1 mile from the broken bridge. GW was out again make sure you have everything your supposed to. Buddy I took forgot his license. GW was cool and called his drivers license in instead of just giving him a ticket.

I was there Thursday, with my Son. I promised him a trip if his grades were good. He brought home the A/B honor roll so he got to miss school and go fishing.
We caught around 75 to 100 fish. I took him where the rapids are and let him catch Males until his arms gave out. Then I told him to save his strength because I was going to take him back down river where the Females were. We caught a load of Females on our double jigs with 2 at a time.
I had some excitement as I hooked a white bass on my back jig and snagged a 15 lb. carp on the front jig at the same time.
We had a very good trip and now I think he will keep up the good grades.

Jimbo- We might have seen you Thurs. - We were in a 14 ft John Boat with a 9.5 Johnson. We fished from about 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 P.M.

Rio, that was you and your son, I talked to on the river today.

You were tied up to that brushpile and I was on the downstream side in that Sears Gamefisher with the Yamaha.

We left shortly after, probably forty five minuets or so, and we had a limit and a half, so it wasn't a bad day by any means.

Most of the fish we caught were males and a few really good sized females in the bunch.

I didn't realize we had as many as we did, because it started out hot and heavy, and then the bite just seemed to taper off pretty fast.

I saw too many boats headed up stream and decided I steer clear, and try to fish less disturbed waters which may have been my mistake, but we still had plenty of fish to clean.

I may try Choke on the next trip, and if the gas keeps going up I may fish closer yet to home!

Yes, Jimbo- We took off from the Boat ramp at 7:30 ish. There were two other boats ahead of us. We passed both and continued up to the shallows where I wanted to let my Son wear his arms out.
We fished there about 3 -4 hours and went back down for the Females. That is when we saw everyone.
We had the river to ourselves while up-river. Not a lot of folks go that far due to the real shallow water.

Looks like plenty of fishing is still yet to come- with Zoveks report of them still down-river.
Todays temp is around 90 degrees- that will spill the eggs pretty quick !
