If at all possible try them on with the waders on. You'll need a bigger size since those waders take up so much room. Tight shoes is not a good thing when its cold.

IMHO a lot depends on what type of bottom you'll be walking on. Felt is ok for stones, rubber bottoms for mud. etc, but be sure to get some ankle support. As usual, Listen to Robin's advice too.

That too! Thanks for chiming in Bill. Can folks come out there and try the waders on?

Robin, Kinda on the dumb side NOT to try'em on  ... We've got Simms, Orvis and White Water goodies. P.S Robin, we sold that sweet little rod you and I were looking at. Look at the on-line BPS ad...seems the fella bought my little buddy for 40 bucks off.

Can't think of a whole lot that I'd rather do. Wish they would let us field test out some of the rods and line in the shop while we're at it....kinda doubt that too

Wading boots with felt soles hold better than others, but also take on mud or snow more readily.
For slippery bottoms, some sort of studs on the soles also help.
If you're going to be wading or hiking long distances in the boots, look for boots made to resemble hiking boots, like those from LL Bean.
Aqua-stealth, a sticky, siped rubber sole, is also a good option. They come with either studded or unstudded bottoms.
I buy my wading boots two sizes larger than my shoe size, knowing I'll often be wearing a couple pairs of heavy socks inside the neoprene feet of my waders.

I bought a pair of White River wading boots. They worked just fine today. They have felt bottoms. I wanted to get them with studs, but all they had were felt with no studs at the store. I saw a website where you could order studs which looked like screws.....but they wanted about 15 bucks for them. Looks like all you need is a screwdriver and you are in business. I may just see what I can find to screw into my felt boots, that won't rust. Any suggestions on size and type of screw? I don't want to long of a screw...that would not be a good thing. LOL. Maybe just short enough to go through the felt almost all the way?
