Some friends and I are looking to camping/fishing this weekend and would like some recommendations on where to go. Looking for somewhere within a couple hours of Houston and would like to be able to catch some white bass and/or catfish. I was looking at Lake Somerville--where's the best place to camp up there for fishing? Any other lake or river recommendations? Thanks for your help.

Chris

State parks are always a good start. Check the link above.

From what I'm reading, River Ridge on the Sabine above should be some of the best fishing you could get into right now. They have camping available too.

North end of Lake Somerville, Yegua Creek area, the whites should be headed up that way.

How do you get to Yegua Creek without a kayak? Is Nails Creek the best place to camp for access? Thanks.

Fayette has some nice campgrounds, But no white bass, they do have some cats, and plenty of bass.

Google around and look for fishing camps below Lake Livingston and around Bedias Creek, which is close to Madisonville. Those areas are fairly close to Houston and are white bass hotspots.
