Should sink like a rock and will probably cast like one too Tied on a #1 saltwater hook. Tie in rattle chamber and bead chain eyes. Tie in some flash, bucktail and feather. Wrap the head and cement then just add water!

HL&S those are good looking flies!
What size hooks/rattles are you using? Also, not a criticism at all but is it the lighting or something else? There is a lovely copper tinge to it all. I like it whether it's the hooks or the light either one.

Whitebass didn't like any flys but this bass did! The guys who invented PostIt notes were on a whole nother track and came on them by accident. Looks like a similar thing here...:) Cool idea alright.

The fly did sink well and casted just fine, but the whitebass just weren't hitting these or any other flys .. I lost count of how many I caught with the roostertail My goal in life is to make a fly that works as good as a roostertail

I'm thinking of using epoxy to secure the rattle instead of thread because the glass tubes make a good body all by themselves.

Hey HL&S, Couple things: - I tried exactly the same thing you did, tied a clouser with a rattle body. I only tied one, and fished it at Cedar Creek at night. I think it worked pretty good, caught a few fish, but the problem is that with dock fishing, you need to get the fly close to the dock, so inevitably the fly takes a beating from hitting the dock. Eventually my glass rattle broke, so then it just became a regular clouser. Even so its a good idea and I'll probably tie a few more soon. - If I remember, I'll post a few pictures tonight if my spinner fly ideas that I use. You mentioned having a fly that could work like a rooster tail... what do you think is the effective part of the Roostertail, is it the blade, or the weight of the lead body? Cause you can easily put an inline spinner to any fly and make on that looks alot like a rooster tail. The quick jigging action tha the lead would provide would be the thing you cannot replicat though.
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

Yes I broke one of the glass chambers too, That's part of the reason for wanting to epoxy the whole thing to the hook to protect the glass..

Newest revision. added epoxy over the glass rattles. I prefer yellow bottoms Simple Bead Chain eyes Stick-on eyes still drying on the salvage dryer
