I fished Bone Creek the year it opened. It was fun fishing a place like that but couldn't stand driving to it. My comparison to Fork was based on the slot and size of fish caught.

I lived in Paola KS and used to fish Hillsdale reservoir. Needless to say, after after many many dissapoiting outings, I started water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. There ain't no fish in those mud holes. But once I got back to God's country, the fishing has been great

I use to go to Friends Univ. and catch my perch there. Then went and did me some flathead fishing. If you want to find a good fishing hole close by. Go down right below the harry street bridge. On the south side. There is a deep trough about 10 to 13 ft. deep there. Have caught alot of nice catfish and flatheads out of there. There is alot of white bass there also. Just not to many people in wichita knows about that place is all because most of the river there you can wade. I use to wade the river from the 21st street dam to the lincoln street dam back in the late 70's and early 80's. The area by the indian center use to have a hole about 30 ft. deep also. But now you can wade over it. Was so good way back then.Plus, I broke the state record for the golden eye fish 3 times in early March fishing about 3 yrs. ago. I didn't know it as I have never seen one of them before so I let them go. Went home and look them up on the fish and game site. The state record for them was only 2 1/4 lbs. all 3 that I caught were at least 4 to 5 lbs. Went back the next day but not even a bite and had 35 mph winds in my face. lol

I am surprised you haven't fished the KGE dam on the Neosho river. It is as good if not better than Chetopa. and the dam in Oswego is a good place plus the dam on the Neosho close to St. Paul is good also.

both of those dams offer excellent sandies in the spring. they really pile up below those dams.

I lived in the Wichita area for many years, Derby and Douglass.
I've fished most of the lakes within 100 miles or so of Wichita, at some time or another. Winfield City Lake is a favorite, caught a ton of small smallmouths and walleyes at El Dorado the first few years it was open, used to fish both Marion lakes, Kanopolis, Glen Elder a few times, and spent lots of time bass fishing on watershed ponds up there.
I miss it.
